Doing a performance test on a game that is about 11 months from release........*walks away*

Why they do performance tests on betas is beyond me. That make no sense. They do not represent the final product and really only serve to provide more ammunition for fanboys. But hey, as long as they get clicks.

Because while a beta is usually a fair bit less polished than the final product, it lets them see what, if any, major graphical features are being introduced (Which, in this case, doesn't seem to be very much), among other things.

Other beta's haven't been a year from release

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Gotta love the reactions here. :D

...all two of them...?

Indeed!  And the ones that are sure to come after! :D

A little predictable, but still a delight. Betas may not give the full picture, sure, the game could and will be improved until it's released. But to act as if this beta doesn't give an idea of what we should expect from the final product is ludiicrous and naive. The game won't be optimized to the point that it runs at twice the resolution it runs right now and locked at 60fps, for example. But, what do I know. I'm not XBox biased, so maybe there's something I don't know. xD

A year from release. Wow. Does digital foundry usually do beta's?

They tested Beta framerates from Battlefield 4, Evolve, and Destiny. And they've even tested E3 footage framerates from Killzone SF, Driveclub, Assassin's Creed Unity, Sunset Overdrive, and several others.

Nothing unusual they're doing here.

They tested some unfinished games like Sunset Overdrive, Destiny or Bayonetta 2, but never such an early build. It's called "beta", but it's more like a pre-alpha because it's still 10-11 months away.

I don't see anything wrong with it. While this is obviously not the final build (as they mentioned several times), it can give us an idea of what to expect from the final game. If, for example, it had frequent drops into the 30's, we could say with a high degree of certainty that the final build wouldn't have a chance of being a stable 1080p/60fps. 11 months isn't that long. Fortunately that's not the case, and while there are some drops, having the performance analysis at hand makes it easier for them to state they they're likely unrelated to the GPU (which is a good thing).

The Xbox One is still in beta, wait for the discrete GPU to be unleashed.

Stopped reading at "It's a missed opportunity to go all out - to press the reset button not just on the rendering tech, but on the core gameplay". I'm done with DF.

well they dont lie for the fanboys, halos gamelay is meh at best. to slow, to simple mapdesign, a meh story with meh characters. nothing special... change we need...

If it's a major AAA title, they usually do an analysis as soon as its either playable, or proper footage is available. They did one for Uncharted 4 too, though skipped out on the frame-rate test (would have bee somewhat pointless on that occasion). They also did one for TW3 July of last year. It's nothing new :p

doing a test on a beta is crazy. must be hungry for hits. not going to bother reading any of that and certainly not giving them a hit.
