Forums - Sales Discussion - Amazon US January monthly bestsellers and general amazon based discussions

I was shocked when I saw the X1 drop back down to $349. Thought for sure it would make it a tight race in the US, however after watching it do very little on the Amazon charts as well as many other online retailers, im confident the X1 will not out sell the PS4 for any week this year. Im assuming the PS4 will close to match pprice for the holiday.

This won't matter until M$ gets a chance to put this price drop into the advertising. Will take effect again in 2-3 weeks.

It is near the end of the end....

How do you know exactly how it works and that someone else is wrong? Just curious.

I have been watching the lists for over a year. Eventually you pick up on these things. But since I told you all you have to do is watch both lists for 24 hours to see if I am right (I am seriously trying to save you some time lol.)

There is no grand mystery to it... what I described is exactly how it works :)

No offence but i thought you had some definitive proof, not your observation. I think what, thismeintiel, said makes more sense. That's the way i always looked at it. Nobody really knows of course but that's the easiest and most logical explanation. I'll try watching the M&S list to see any similarities

Well now you'll be able to test it out. PS4's position nearly all day was 8, and now it's on 8 today with no up or down arrow. If it goes up to say 6, and obviously has a green arrow, then drops to 7 it should still have a green arrow because it is still above 8. If it drops back to 8 the arrow should disappear and if it drops to 9 it will have a red arrow. But it looks like it might be stuck on 8.

And pay attention to te PS4, unless it falls to number 9, the red arrow will dissapear soon. How do I know this? Well, either I'm a psycic, or the way I described above is how the list works

Yep, it's gone. Now it's on the X1 which dropped to #15.

Well would you look at that!

And now it's risen to 14 and still with the red arrow. So you are correct, the arrow is relative to the previous 24 hrs not the previous hour. Seems like it's settled now.

So ... where does this thread put the 'the price is what sold the PS4' argument? Doesn't this prove it was never just the price?

That argument already fell when the PS4 sold better with price parity.

I think most reasonably analytical Xb one fans soon recognised that the general market perception is PS4 is a better quality machine, therefore it justifies a higher price than Xb one. So PS4 is not selling better on price alone. But I think they believed (and so did I) that in the USA Xb one would sell beter than PS4 through the year with a $50 price advantage. Perhaps it actually needs a $75 price advantage. There will be a price advantage at which Xb one will sell better than PS4 in the USA. Question is whether MS is willing to go down to that price.

I think MS knows that the price advantage at which Xb one would sell better than PS4 around the rest of the world is so low that there is no point in even trying to play the price game. The price for Xb one in other markets will come down in line with falling costs.

People that said it was only the price are now like:

Right in the kisser

Both consoles down slightly on hourly chart, PS4 at 9 and X1 at 16.

Wolf Among Us free episode and Just Dance going up seems to be the reason.

Still no pic of TLOU? Shouldn't Sony be having a word with Amazon? Surely that's going to effect sales, even if only slightly.

PS4 is too beastly. It doesn't need handicaps!

The Xbox One has passed the PS4 on GameStop so there is hope there. We will see how long it can maintain this lead.
