Is the XBO price drop official or is it again a "temp" promotion?

Seems like to me it would have made sense keeping it temp until April, bring it back to normal price for the low sales summer months and then giving it an official cut for next Winter spurring on massive sales again

It's a promotion without an end date. So it's pretty much official.

MS will likely have a big promotion for the releases of the order and Bloodborne. Something like an extra free game thrown in. They did it for lots of releases last year.

hhmmm...PS4 is above the Xbox One huh? I wonder if that will change with the price drop?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This IS with the price drop.

The PS5 Exists.

The pricedrop is already effective. But it didn't change anything at all, or really a little effect, ppl who wanted to buy this console already get it on Black friday/holidays for 320 $ + 2/3 free games + 50 $ promotion at wallmart/target.

The Xone will stay way behind the ps4 for a very, very long time...probably until nect november, for halo and Black friday.

I think the PS4 will push higher the closer we get to The Order release. And then of course we'll aslo have The Order bundle in there too.

Sony would be smart to do an Order 1886/PS4 bundle for 399. Kinda like what they are doing with TLOU especially since it doesn't cost them anything really.

I don't think they will. What they might do though is include TLOU in with The Order bundle to give it extra value.

Y'know, I wonder if this recent price cut will be short-lived if the PS4 continues outselling the XBO despite costing $50 more. We're already 24 hours into the new "promotion," yet the PS4 is comfortably ahead on Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. If the XBO doesn't do much better than it did last January (142k according to NPD) despite being at $350, I think MS might just cut their losses, stick the XBO back at $400 to keep it more profitable, and wait until Sony cuts the PS4's price before cutting it again. They may also do additional price promos during the holidays. For example, say both the PS4 & XBO are at $350 come this October, which is likely. MS may drop the XBO to $300 during November and December.

Basically, if having the XBO be below parity with the PS4 doesn't help outside the holidays, they may keep it at parity until the holidays, only dropping it below parity during the last two months of the year.

I agree that what you say could be a possibility. The next few months will be very interesting to say the least.

Wouldn't increasing the price again after announcing a price cut just hurt consumer confidence? I think MS is prepared to take some hit financially because they know they can get it back on Xbox Live and games, if they increase their market penetration.

MS strategy is like the US or bust right now.
