Forums - Nintendo - HALP! Bought 2DS from non-NA region, have questions.

I know some of you live in far off places like UAE, Saudi, Malaysia, and Singapore.

I bought a new 2DS off of Amazon for my daughter's xmas present. It works perfectly and I didn't realize it wasn't a NA console until I tried to register it on my Club Nintendo account.

So far ALL games (3rd party and 1st) have worked perfectly as well as the creation of a NNID and usage of the eShop.

I can't register it, but that is the least of my concern.

Do any of you know if consoles in that region can play all NA games? Is there a site that shows region locked games?

EDIT: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=144976438

Confirmed. Consoles from that region do work 100% with NA games. So yes, still region locked as it wouldn't work with EU or JP games. But, NA games are fine!

edit: I'm super wrong :D

The 2DS is region free. You should be good :)

Nintendo Club person(s) said otherwise and internet searches also state that it is region locked like the 3DS.

Do you have a source for that?

It's region locked.

Well, I found this link. But it goes to a homebrew site. Which people on this site didn't like a few years ago. So here it is https://gbatemp.net/threads/looks-like-the-2ds-is-region-free.360024/

And here is a link to someone on a forum playing US games on a foreign console

As far as I've heard, the systems are region locked and not the games. I could be wrong about that though.

So if you were able to create the account with no problem and the games work thus far then I think you should be fine.

It just sucks you can't register it.

Considering there are mods you can do that un-region lock a device, that makes sense.

Any way to know what region's consoles are unlocked?

I've tried a bunch of DS games including pokemon and 3DS games including pokemon, mk7, nsmb2, zelda, lego movie, animal crossing new leaf, kingdom hearts, and they're looking for their smash bros game to try out too.

Miiverse and the eShop appear to be the NA versions as well.

First linke I had already read. Guy was playing DS games which were region free in the first place.

But, yes I guess I am proof to myself. I'm just wondering if there are certain games people know of or if I've stumbled across a loop hole for particular regions like the one I mentioned in OP are are purposefully sold as region free due to that region not really having a big distribution.

OP updated.... questions answered.

3DS/2DS is region locked.
Region of this console (UAE/Saudi/Malaysia/Singapore) will play all NA games.
No warranty or Club Nintendo access.

Got confirmation from peeps in those regions. (see link in OP)
