Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo have VR Headset Envy when Sony and Microsoft rolls out with theirs?

The premature jump to VR could damage the idea in a lot of people minds. For vr we should be aiming for 1080p each eye at a solid 60fps as a utterly bare minimum.

Nintendo will be the first of the three able to release a console with sufficient power for quality VR as the Wii U will likely be replaced soonest.

I'd imagine they're going to wait and see how VR takes off or plan some AR device to further distinguish themselves.

I don't think people should read to much into Miyamoto's comments. They aren't going to go nuts over the tech until they have an announced device on the way to market.

No, Nintendo will revolutionize VR after other companies test the waters and the console will be remembered as the first VR device.

If the current management is still in charge? No, they will claim they are different just for the sake of being so, claim superiority for being "different" (even though right term would be "lacking". And go on to brag about how they innovate.

I'm detecting some animosity.

its just the truth. they are doing it with the WiiU already.

They are?

Yes. they already claimed to be different when they were really just lacking compared to the other two. or claimed to be suprior when they were "different"

So you would agree that Nintendo is different considering how they lack third party support but have games exclusive to their platforms?

I'm looking for the claim of superiority. I'm not finding it.

VR will never be mainstream success for a long period of time.

I said it about 3D and say it about VR. It can get hype and buzz and companies behind it and even a big developer or two. Doesn't matter. Time and time again through the course of decades. People hate wearing something for entertainment for long periods of time. People don't want to pay for it. People don't like to have a sweaty head playing a game or watching TV. Some may most will not. If you have to buy multiple headsets and/or glasses to enjoy it won't work.

.3D been coming and going since the 1930s and every decade or 2 pushed hard as the next big thing. VR in the 80's and esp the 90's same thing. Every major console maker from Atari to SEGA and Nintendo made them. None worked out. VR was so popular we had VR cafes. The fad faded. VR is not long term. This is Sony's 3rd attempt since PS2 era.

I do not remember the first two.

Do you have any links?

Nintendo already did VR before it was cool

I am convinced Nintendo will be the first people to do VR correctly. Nintendo has done something to innovate their interfaces every generation after the SNES. The 360 and the X1 are almost identical to the XBox in terms of interfaces, and Sony has innovated even less.
