Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo have VR Headset Envy when Sony and Microsoft rolls out with theirs?

With Oculus Rift, Sony's VR headset and Microsoft rumored to introduce their own VR headset next year's E3, will Nintendo be the console suffering from VR envy?

VR is a massive innovation/gimmick/novelty as the Wiimote was when it was first introduced.  Certainly, it would have some of the casuals interested in trying something new.  If done correctly, will nintendo be the company known for not having a headset?  Or will VR flop as a whole concept.

I haven't tried any VR headset so I'm not so versed on what it will entail.  Regardless, I am still very excited to try one out for the first time.

Nope. Nintendo already Stated that when you use a headset such as The ones youre talking about, The whole concept of getting around TV with your friends or family is lost, So thats why they arent investing in this area

VR, to me, looks like a big inconvenience for most people. Specially since how awkward it looks and I doubt the price of it which is essentially ps4/x1 + VR will really want to make everyone jump on board asap. One of the reasons why the wii was so successful was cause how "seamless" it really was and how affordable it was which VR doesn't have.

But only time will tell though! I might be getting one when more prawn games make use of it and its released to public

And in terms of Nintendo being envy of it, idk just yet cause I think it will be based on the success of VR

If the current management is still in charge? No, they will claim they are different just for the sake of being so, claim superiority for being "different" (even though right term would be "lacking". And go on to brag about how they innovate.

Some people might say the Wii was a gimmick, but it was the cheapest home console of the gen. If you are a casual, you look price more than technology. If you have to buy a 200$ headset+console+game and you only have a casual interest of the thing, you won't buy it. People who bought the wii for the motion controlls only could buy a wii with wii sports bundled, and that's it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

They should calm their titties and stock all their amiibos.

Mayby, if the concept REALLY works.

I think they're more likely to step closer towards AR for consoles. Not surprising given how AR is available on the 3DS.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I don't think they'll claim to be different for the sake of being so.  This time around, Nintendo has actual stones to step on when they say they're going a different route.  This time around, they're investments have been towards QOL and their dealings with Sharp.  Nintendo is truly moving towards a different platform on this one.  We've seen VR in nintendo and I think when they say they're not interested, it's either because they have something up their sleeves like the Wiimote vs HD, or they haven't seen the final product of their competitors.

Why would they be envious? They can always relaunch Virtual Boy.
