That would definitely help them over there on Europe :D,also it was expected i think, but i never thought it would be this soon and also such a big cut.

Well ,for now its a rumour .It could help a bit 360 sales but not so much .In Europe 360 is just "the other and worse " machine ...not by slashing its price 50 euros they will get people buying it in droves .It may increase the sales for one or two week when some hesitant people finally decides to buy it but nothing in the way of sustainable sales .

And if Sony responds and lowers the PS3 they are dead .

Well, the article states that the Core would cost 150 £, that was my starting point.

You'll get a big burst in sales, and then it will trickle down to a slightly higher rate of average sales...after the initial storm, it will probably average out just below the ps3.

The article states that its 50€ per SKU and that would mean something about 40£. The current price is 280€ and 220£(with a game) or 190£ on amazon or 200£ by microsoft. If amazon selling it under price, thats something amazon does.

Its a uk source, but its seems they only know of a drop off 50€ and gamble with numbers. So I would take the 50€ and go by that.

The article gave 38,26£ for 50€. So going by the 200£, and a cut of 40£, would mean 160£, so for UK, the price without VAT would be approximately 270 USD. So we are pretty close to offsetting the price, just like i and Ben suggested in the first place. And if we take into account roundings and what way the exchange rates are going, we definately are talking about offsetting. @NJ5: I don't think anyone ignored VAT in this topic.

PS3 I bet will follow suit with the launch of GTA 4, there will be a PS3 price cut. Mark my words, lol. Price cuts are good. Short term pain for company for long term gain = more software sales and more console sales. It would be great if both XBox 360 and PS3 could  both sell over 10 million consoles per year. More software developers would make more sales and in the long term everyone would be happy, developers and gamers. More future projects would arrive on the consoles.
The Wii will I assume sell whatever the combined console sales of both PS3 and XBox 360 for this year.
