Forums - Sales - 50 Euro Xbox 360 price cut March 14

Would it even be possible for MS to cut the price in only one territory like that?

 Yes, its fairly common practice.

I doubt it will change much. Might spur some demand, but we are in relatively slow times right now...

Is that a price cut, or just a exchange rate in pricing?

Well I think it would be to increase sales in anticipation of the GTAIV release at the end of April...

Lol, I guess my hope for an $80 cut was unfounded then. Let's see what $50 does.

Well using the current exchange rate according to xe.com:

50 Euros = 76.16 US Dollars

so it would almost be an $80 cut for them

We can dream:)

Yeah, hehe. Oh I forgot you're in Australia, right? Well then 50 Euros = 82.12 AUD, so there you go an $80 cut!

My god imagine if that happened here in Aus.  Not an exchange-rate adjustment but an actual $80 drop.  Noone would ever hear the words playstation again.

€50 wouldn't even be enough to compensate for the exchange rate factor. It would still be more expensive in EU compared to the USA.

It's not an exchange rate adjustment. Let's remove the VAT from the Core's price:

150/1.175 £ = $253

That's cheaper than in USA, where the Core costs $280 right?

If I had a penny for every time people forgot about the VAT in European prices, I'd probably have enough money to buy a new house.

Well if this is true i would like to see Sony counter this with a price drop also, they stand to gain with the release of GTA4 so it would make sense anyway!

Have the 40GB (the only one over here) at £250 and they will be laughing :D

What a surprise, a pricecut in time for GTA IV...
I think we all saw this coming from miles off, its the only thing that makes sense to try to bump up Eu/others numbers for the 360 right now.
It won't have a terrific effect though, it could reach 60-65 k weekly for a month or so but then it'll fall back to todays numbers imo.
MS has always favoured the NA market with PR, games and content and price and now they'll have to answer for it, Eu/Others is a lost region for them along with Japan I think.

We have to be realistic...  GTA and PS are synonymous with each other.  I would expect sales of GTA to be higher especially in North America for GTA and 360.  But, I doubt it will be a romp that some people are predicting or feel will happen.  The question people will ask themselves is...  "Do I want GTA + Extra content on 360 or do I want GTA + a blu-ray player"...  Obvious choice to pure gamers who must get all the GTA they can get, but not necessarily others who are looking to make and HD media library at home.
