Is This A Redesigned Wii U GamePad In Latest Mario Kart 8 Japanese Commercial?

Some eagle eyed readers have spotted what could be a redesigned Wii U GamePad in the latest Japanese Mario Kart 8 commercial. There’s clearly something off with the GamePad as it appears to be smaller with a larger screen. It wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo redesigned the GamePad, as the current one is rather bulky and unattractive. We shall have to wait and see.

A bigger screen would be cooler.

Looks like a regular Gamepad to me in the other shots, like in 0:23 for example.

It's a standard gamepad...

The spot is old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JPTlud04z8

It's something with the blur, it looks normal from other angles.

Around the Network

It's blur + depth of field in effect. Still the same gamepad.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Despite the blur it does feel like the button layout on the right is closer to the screen.

Does look more slim with bigger screen, wonder what it would cost.

Yeah, guys, it's just an issue with blur and a sloppy, phoned-in screen image.

Blame the advertisers. The ad is old anyway.

Not that it would necessarily boost sales but I wouldn't mind a redesigned Wii U, perhaps call it the New Wii U. Here are some things I think they could incorporate.

Smaller/sleaker Gamepad, I really enjoy the Gamepad but it is a bit bulky. Perhaps similar in size to a Vita would be nice.

Increased battery life on Gamepad along with further range from console. Obviously it won't be able to leave the house but currently I can't leave the living room without losing signal. I just want to be able to play off-screen in my bedroom.

Perhaps faster CPU for quicker download/loading times.

Something like this would be nice but with Wii U selling so low, I'm not sure if it's really worthwhile for Nintendo to release a revision. The only way I could see them doing it is if it brought down production costs by a decent margin.
