Its what I expected. Carried by the Nintend/Mario brand, but not comparable to a proper mario release though

Never was suppose to be comparable to a mario release^

"Carried by Nintendo/Mario Brand" doesn't mean as much as you think. Bravely Default for example didnt do super extraordinary sales like FF. That had the SE/FF Brand... :)

I never said it was and its not comparable to bravery default. Is bravery default a Final Fantasy spin off lead by one of the franchises key characters?

Captain Toad is based off Mario 3D Worst seller thats at 2.5mil WW. (Well major role at least)

Also wats funny is the game practically did 30% of SM3DW FW in japan. Its a spin off with a completely different genre, especially a mario franchise related game^

I think Bravely Default fits the bill way more than Captain Toad as "[insert company]/[Insert Franchise]" comparisons. Especially when its the same genre.

Toad is an iconic, recognisable character whos majorly tied to everything Nintendo. He's has been prevelant in  Nintendo's portfolio for decades, he didn't just appear last year.

I think Loyalty to franchises and characters are far more important then simply being in the same mold as something else and being delivered by the same company. Its why Nintendo relies more heavily spins offs (Smash Bors, Mario kart, Yoshi, Kirby, Donkey Konkey Kong, Mario party, Mario party, Hyrule warrios) versuses New IPs.

Looks like a great game, very polished and nailed-on gameplay. Classic Nintendo. Not surprised that it's selling, though I'm not sure you can attribute those sales figures to the Christmas season in a country that is predominately Buddhist! Looking forward to a UK release.
