Sony's sweet advantage? Sony's only able to edge ahead of Nintendo by such a narrow margin that its within the margin of error as clearly shown by Metacritics results. This is no real victory for Sony unless you were expecting much less from Sony to begin with.

Again another matter of people wanting to believe reviews as gods law when it suits them and attacking them when they don't (I'm pointing fingers at both parties in the discussion here too).

If only this victory for Sony actually in anyway mattered. *shakes head*

metacritic isn't the most reliable site. it weighs reviews as it pleases. gamerankings is way better.

and i think you're being a bit harsh. it's like your coming down on sony for having games people generally like. would you be happier if they only released sh*t like conspiracy games?

Eh disagree.  Sure the weighing should be transparent... however Play Magazine shoudln't be worth the same as IGN.  Or an individual user review.

Weighting should indeed be revealed. Until then, I'd rather go by an unbiased source in gamerankings.

Unbiased because they support the conclusions you wish to believe?

You know, this is a futile argument.  The second you have different opinions that can't be factually resolved you can and will have differences.  I'm sure I could note a bunch of reviews across consoles/developers and twist them to suit near enough whatever I wanted.

So taking one set of reviews puts Sony slightly ahead.  Another Nintendo.  So what?  There's no way to resolve this.  It's like sitting in a car with two fuel gauges and one says 75% full and the othr 77% full - which is right?

Game reviews are particularly subjective and trail film/book reviews in consistency and are clearly influenced by the reviewers own tastes plus deadlines.  Arguing that one or the other view might be wrong is therefore pretty stupid as there's no way to say who is right.  Maybe its Sony, maybe its Nintendo.  At least both can clearly be seen to deliver great games.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

No. Check my posts; I've always said I preferred gamerankings.com. If they are going to weight certain outlets without telling people how they do it, then I'm not going to trust them. I've had to e-mail them to add games to the list of new releases, too, because there are certain games they didn't seem to care about that already had reviews.

Rotten Tomatoes (movie reviews aggregate) has a "Cream of the Crop" section that is the same concept that metacritic is trying to do, except they don't seperate them. Also, when you search on Rotten Tomatoes, the score that you see is not "Cream of the Crop," it's the entire average.

It's not a big deal, and I use metacritic more because their site is better organized, because the scores are generally close to each other anyway. Still, until metacritic becomes more open I'm more likely to prefer gamerankings.

Regardless of which one you look at, Sony has a great game lineup.

Edit:  Judging from your first post in this quote, and your other posts regarding anything sony, you seem biased against Sony.   "This is no real victory for Sony unless you were expecting much less from Sony to begin with."  So if someone comes out on top there should be no celebration?  If a favored team wins a championship in a sport they shouldn't celebrate that fact with their fans?  The fact is, 2007's results in this thread are just another example of Sony's great first/second party support and a great reason to be assured there will be great games in the future, especially this year.  If you use metacritic, they are #2 to Nintendo is rankings with more games released.  That's still quite a feat since the Wii is still being help up almost by Nintendo alone because of their great software.

Can we just agree that Sony and Nintendo make the best games? That's why I bought a Wii and a ps3. :D

yeah, that's what I was trying to say in my edit above, heh.

Funny, Sony fans were so eager to jump on Metacritics summations as being up and up in the past. I guess people just pick and choose what is credible when its convenient.

If Nintendo had won out in this: The Sony fans would have said, well yeah, what do you expect, Nintendo pumps out more games.

If Nintendo had only won by a slim margin: The Sony fans would have said, look out Nintendo, Sony is catching up.

No matter what the situation would have been it is always played to the benefit of what the person's console bias is.

yep, no matter what happened out of those Scenerios it's a good sign for Sony. Thanks for playing.

Also, I'm pretty sure Sony publishes more games than Nintendo and Microsoft, but if someone has those figures I'd love to see them.

Wait wait wait. I thought having a strong first-party lineup was bad for a system because the third-parties all leave because they're afraid to compete?
