There have been several games recently to release on PS4/PC with cross-platform play. War Thunder, Final Fantasy XIV, and now Street Fighter V, to name a few. One key reason these games aren't on Xbox platforms is due to Microsoft's strict restriction on cross-platform play, specifically, their restriction against it.

Now Xbox seems to have lost SFV due to this, and it's a pretty big deal. If Microsoft wants it back, I think they'll have to allow for cross-platform play. It wouldn't be the first time they've done it. For example, Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360 was also able to play with PC and PS2 players.

EDIT: I should probably clarify a bit more. Regardless of what circumstances made SFV a PS4/PC exclusive, I think the fact that it's cross-platform play is the main thing preventing a future port to Xbox. If it was a timed exclusive without cross-platform play, It would be far more likely that future versions would be on Xbox.

I never fully understood why MS dislikes cross-platform play. But, for quite a while, I've thought it's something I think they should stop being so afraid of.

What do you think? Will Xbox never get Street Fighter back because of cross-platform play? Will they perhaps make an exception just for this game? Or will they let up on the restriction entirely? Would an Xbox version simply not have cross-platform play with PC and PS4?

"Now Xbox seems to have lost SFV due to this"

I am pretty sure they lost the exclusivity cause they made a deal with Sony and not due to Cross-platform play

And cross-platform play does work with certain games and not all games (like fps where arguably PC has the advantage) but I do agree that they should loosen the restriction a little

I should have clarified a bit. lol.

I hope that makes sense.

Do Lost Planet & Shadow Run not count anymore?

Pretty sure MS could support PC and Xbox cross-platform play if the PC game was purchased/registered through the MS store

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Microsoft is under new leadership and much better in my opinion. This will happen sooner before you know it.

I understabd why they are hesistant to do so. With a shooter oriented console like xb1 and x360 being able to play against pc people is dangerous because lets face it. Pc has better controls for anything but 3rd person and racing games. Having players play against other platforms could ruin game balancing for one particular platform.

they did it years ago on 360 with FFXI where you could play with PC/PS2 users

Not sure why they havent done it since
