There have been several games recently to release on PS4/PC with cross-platform play. War Thunder, Final Fantasy XIV, and now Street Fighter V, to name a few. One key reason these games aren't on Xbox platforms is due to Microsoft's strict restriction on cross-platform play, specifically, their restriction against it.

Now Xbox seems to have lost SFV due to this, and it's a pretty big deal. If Microsoft wants it back, I think they'll have to allow for cross-platform play. It wouldn't be the first time they've done it. For example, Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360 was also able to play with PC and PS2 players.

EDIT: I should probably clarify a bit more. Regardless of what circumstances made SFV a PS4/PC exclusive, I think the fact that it's cross-platform play is the main thing preventing a future port to Xbox. If it was a timed exclusive without cross-platform play, It would be far more likely that future versions would be on Xbox.

I never fully understood why MS dislikes cross-platform play. But, for quite a while, I've thought it's something I think they should stop being so afraid of.

What do you think? Will Xbox never get Street Fighter back because of cross-platform play? Will they perhaps make an exception just for this game? Or will they let up on the restriction entirely? Would an Xbox version simply not have cross-platform play with PC and PS4?
