It's one awards pronouncement among many. Who really cares? Just opinions from certain people about what they liked best. Being nominated is just as meaningful, to be honest. It doesn't bother me if I don't agree.

I think the games that deserved recognition got recognition--DA:I, FC4, Mario Kart 8, and Shadow of Mordor. I think Nintendo deserved best developer (though it opens up a can of worms about what a "developer" is). None of the winners bothered me.

Why would a remaster get an award? That makes absolutely no sense to me...

Considering 2014 had the most amount of remasters ever in video game history.....the remaining categories would of been left fairly empty. 

I agree with Jimbo1337 on his point. Video games get plenty of awards from all over the place. Awards in general don't matter a great deal but how many people they sell to is what matters.
