It's one awards pronouncement among many. Who really cares? Just opinions from certain people about what they liked best. Being nominated is just as meaningful, to be honest. It doesn't bother me if I don't agree.
I think the games that deserved recognition got recognition--DA:I, FC4, Mario Kart 8, and Shadow of Mordor. I think Nintendo deserved best developer (though it opens up a can of worms about what a "developer" is). None of the winners bothered me.
