I really enjoy God of War. 

I won't be buying a PS3 for this game, but I will definately get the game when I pick up a PS3 for FFXIII versus.  Sony always spoke as though this game had no chance of releasing prior to 2009, which was fine.  But recently there has been talk that it will make it in 2008, based mainly on a "coming soon" ad and industry rumours.

The problem is that some of this feels like Sony may rush the game to get it out this year, after the apparent delay of FFXIII and GT5.  There have been a few games that were seemingly rushed to market by Sony or at their urging (hi Lair) but I thought they had gotten better (eg. delaying Home continuously to make sure it is ready).

"According to sources, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Sony may get God of War 3 out on the PS3 before the end of 2008."

Phrases like that make me worry Sony may force the game out onto the market rather than letting it slide out when it is ready.  This may be worry over nothing, the game may come in 2008 and be great.  But I'm very fond of the series and im praying Sony won't butcher it for the sake of release windows.

Thoughts? 

Don't worry. The back of the God of War 2 manual mentioned God of War Chains of Olympus was comjng soon and Sony delayed it for quality, and Iam sure God of War 3 will get the same treatment.

the developers started GoW3 just after they finished the 2nd game, they've had 2 or so years to develop GoW3, and being a 1st party developer they are privi to all the best internal tech which would allow them to build a great graphics engine from scratch while the content was made for the game in parallel, plus they had allot of funding from Sony, this is just my assumption.

I honestly don't see Sony destroying one of their great games for the sakes of rushing tha game so it can be out by this year.

I don't know much of God of War 3. Will it shift consoles in the same way as mega hits: MGS 4, GT5, FF XIII, Kill Zone 2 and Resistance 2? We will find out when the GoW 3 is closer to being released, I assume 2009.

I think if they keep the game good it can shift consoles, even if they delay it till the quiet months of 2009, which they should do if there is ANY need for it.

Actually, reports are that they started development over half a year before completing GoW2.

@Starcraft: Lair is a bad example of a rushed game.  It had been in development since before E3'05, and the decision to use the Sixaxis exclusively and other gameplay elements like the flawed targeting system had obviously been in the works from pretty early on, and no amount of delays would have fixed that, barring somebody walking up, slapping Julian Egglebrecht across the face, and screaming, "Your game sucks!"

But back on topic, I don't think GoW3 will make it out this year, but if it does, I don't think it will be rushed.  Sony Santa Monica has a great reputation.  

Tbh, I just don't see the point of rushing it out for this year.  LBP, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, etc. should be enough to carry the ps3 through Q4, which is the earliest GoW3 could make it out anyhow.  If it comes out this year, it will be because it is ready, and for no other reason.

Starcraft at the helm of another thread concerning PS3... I'm beginning to see a trend here.

It's starting to wear thin DMeisterJ.  I highly doubt you even read my OP, in which I offered considerable praise for a Sony-exclusive franchise and reasserted my desire to own a PS3 in the future.  You seriously have to get past the idea that anyone that doesn't think the sun shines out of Sony's ass is a Fanboy.

I think a lot rests on the reception of LBP and to a lesser extent Resistance 2.  If neither of those games end up being AAA then all thats left this year on PS3 is MGS4, which might make Sony inclined to rush something out.

Hopefully your right though, I can't wait for another good GoW. 

What I really want is for Sony to convince EA to do another Future Cop: LAPD. If that game was exclusive I would buy a PS3 this minute.

I'm honestly not concerned in the least bit.  Sony isn't going to rush their flagship title when the ps3 is selling so well all of a sudden.  They'll bring it out when it's ready to be brought out.  And we all know Sony isn't afraid of delays.

If sales were still dreadful, I'd be a little worried, but sales are actually doing pretty well now and it has enough HUGE name IP's coming out this year that it really doesn't need God of War III right now.  It would just hurt the other big titles coming this holiday.
