According to VGChartz the gap between the 360 and PS3 is now 6.75 million.

However we know the PS3 is slightly undertracked for the UK and Australia based on MCV/Chart Track/GfK/Sony [Bravia figures], probably by about 50K in total.

And according to VGChartz the 360 outsold the PS3 in January for North America by about 62K, while the NPD reported the PS3 outselling the 360 by about 60K for just the US, so that's another 122K of difference.

So the difference is probably closer to 6.56 million assuming no great difference for other regions. However assuming christmas sales (UK 20-22% of the European PS3 market) and PS2 sales ratios for SCEE are representative there may be another great gap, this may put the actual difference close to 6 million.

6 million considering Blu-Ray victory, fewer XBox users upgrading to 360, continued 360 reliability issues, a much better high profile PS3 game line-up, PS3 Home, PS3 PlayTV introduction, etc IMO 6 million seems like a possible figure to master by christmas 2008. (both consoles may drop in price though)

@ZenfoldorVGI, if they won`t buy PS3, how they will play FFXIII and GT5? =))

The only chance for x360 to hold it`s market share, is get a price cut this spring, while ps3 not having it till Christmas.

@MikeB, in December VG also undertracked PS3 in USA, accroding to NPD there over 100k difference. =)

@ZenfoldorVGI, well without GT5 and FFXIII it will be hard to achieve, as i said before.
At this rate, with great PS3 bundles coming in next months, PS3 will increase it`s sales. All x360 have - is a prossible pricecut this spring, otherwise, it will behind by 60-70k weekly on average + some sales boost durign MGS4, KZ2, LBP, R2, M2 releases.

PS3 getting some good games in Japan this year. 40-50K lead in Japan alone will bring 2 mln. lead. by the end of year.

1.96M Japan - 1,5 mln. lead today + 2 mln. lead by the end of year.
4.09M America - all it`s needed 1-1,5 mln. lead (with KZ2, R2, MGS4 and other BIG games).

I think he may be referring to hardware issues.

Not everyone has the same taste and people may not care that much for US media reviews. IMO Gears (360 version, haven't played the PC version) and Halo 3 are overhyped. For me overall the PS3 games library is better already and by the end of this year there's no contest. Only 360 games I would have loved to see on the PS3 some day would be Mass Effect (if done right this time), BioShock and Banjoo 3 (I liked Kameo and prior Banjoo gamesl).

The 360 exclusives include shooters, story-driven epics and an RPG, the Wii games included a platformer and a Zelda game and the PS3 games....weren't on the list.  Im sorry but as much as there is an argument for the PS3's line-up over the next 18 months, to say that it's current library can compete with the 360's current library is pretty ridiculous.  I don't even hear fanboys talk about the PS3's existing line-up, its always "wait until FFXIII" or "check out Killzone 2."  Of course if your issue is US reviewers, the Xbox 360 has Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon which were rated 90+ by notable Japanese reviewers.  The PS3 has no such JRPG.

Mass Effect has some framerate issues I'll grant you, but reviewers still saw fit to give it 90+ and for good reason.  I fully agree with you that Bioshock is excellent, and so was Kameo.  Banjo is my second most anticipated game after Fable 2.

 

Not media player well not just yet, it still requires a few updates before it can play all AVI files which was annoying and to MikeB PC titles cant be called exclusive especially when they play better on the PC than 360 and put your dummy back in

Oblivion is ranked above 93% for the 360, however there's no denying the PS3 version is better (720p vs 600p, far less loading interuptions, longer view distance, more content, etc), so it all means little.

I played the PGR games, but I have far much more fun with Motorstorm. For online shooter multi-player I prefer Warhawk, for great story and gameplay I prefer Uncharted, for a platformer I prefer Ratchet & Clank TOD, for online store games I prefer Super Stardust HD, for backwards compatible titles I prefer God of War 2, etc. It really comes down to personal taste.

Of course they can be called exclusives.  At the very least they are console exclusives.  You can't play them on your PS3 or Wii can you?  The VAST majority of console gamers don't have the PC hardware to play games like Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Gears of War or Mass Effect.
