Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has to do something fast!!!

Nintendo put up money for third party games several times.

On the Nintendo 64, they published both versions of Star Craft and Command and Conquer. Also co-developed a Ridge Racer game with Namco,

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (NGC) and possibly more games from that sub franchise was made primarily on a deal between Nintendo and Square Enix where Nintendo help fund the majority of the costs and published the titles themselves.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (NGC) another game where Nintendo (and then 2nd party partner Silicon Knights, fresh off moderate success of Eternal Darkness, did the majority of the labor and publishing to get the game out on their system.

Also, Lego City Undercover and Bayonetta 2 also count since the IPs are still very much controlled by third parties.

The whole price drop thing an't gonna work. I don't get why people really suggest this. Gamecube was dropped to 99$. A whole lotta good it did for its image. Once it got that "image", pretty much nothing is gonna change peoples mind. It's easier to ignore a product, for whatever. Than to get people to look at it again.

Nintendo has better games in my opinion, the other two dont have anything to offer.

While I enjoy Nintendo's first party just as much as the other guy, to say that the other brands have nothing to offer is a little absurd. Even the most loyal Xbox/PS fans will tell you there are a few games coming out of the other camp that they'd love to have on their preferred console. I suppose you're entitled to your opinion and maybe you're not into the cinematic experience but even so, there are still games such as Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Sunset Overdrive, the Tales of series, Kingdom Hearts etc.

Going back on topic, I saw a few posts saying that advertising wasn't needed. That I find to be a laughable comment. You're telling me that in North America (Can't speak for other regions but I'd guess Europe too), where you still have people who think the Wii U is just a gamepad addon to the OG Wii, isn't needed?

I'd like to think a big part of why Pokemon games and Mario Kart do so well is because they were actually advertised, both at retailers and on TV. Where as games like Wonderful 101, which I rather enjoyed, get no attention whatsoever because their budget simply isn't big enough to support advertising leaving the game in limbo. I'm not saying the Wii U could compete with advertising but it would raise awareness to the brand. At the end of the day, the saying is true. One must be willing to spend money, even lose money, in order to make a profit. Playing it safe never got anyone anywhere, Nintendo needs to remember how rutheless they were when they battled Sega for console suppremacy.

The final thing I want to add is this. Nintendo has already established that they are the handheld king and that title isn't going anywhere, so maybe it's time to focus a little less on the 3DS and put some of those games on the Wii U? Majora's Mask, Luigi's Mansion and a few other titles could have easily found their way to the Wii U to make the library have a little more fluff so to speak. I'm not saying put everything on the Wii U but you can't deny that the 3DS seems to get way more first party attention through out the year, needs to be a little more even if you ask me.

Sorry i meant myself, didnt mean they dont have anything to offer.

they had to launch a 250$ wii u smash bundle oficially. 200$ in black friday.
they would have some losses, but it would sell very well.
People would buy extra controlers for 8 players, and would buy amiibos, and also other nintendo games. They should recover the profit from it.

So I have two questions:

1) Why are more people buying PS4 and XB1?

2) What do you think Nintendo could do to turn this thing around?

[...]

1.1) Why they are buying PS4/XBone instead of WiiU

Because people seem to like realism and real-looking games much more than fantasy colourfull games. They like action, weapons, shootings. They like amazing graphics and can be attracted by them really easily. They like cinematic games. They think of nintendo as kiddie games, because they are mainly colourfull. They like online multiplayer. They are "bound" to Sony or MS by PSN/XBL subscription. Their friends with whom they want to play all the online multiplayer action games also have got only this console.

1.2) Why they are buying PS4/XBone at all

They completely go crazy for even minor graphic updates (of course there are exceptions) and so rather buy a new console to have a bit better graphics than stick to PS360 for the same games with a bit worse graphics.  They are following marketing and hype about insanely powerful hardware even though the games (see the sentence before) mainly are looking only slightly better.

To be honest I do not not why people are buying a new console for games, which they can also play on their old console. It has to do something with slightly improved graphics. Maybe they think the old console is so old, it only can do bad graphics right now, so i better buy a new one.

2) NOTHING at all - just prepare for the next generation ...

Well, I for one knew that I was going to upgrade eventually when things like Halo 5, Red Dead 3 and the next Batman came were gonna come out so I just decided to do it earlier while I knew I could financially afford to purchase it. I think that is how most people are looking at it when considering an upgrade. And of course you have those materialistic people who see new shiny technology and they simply must own it, like those nutjobs who buy the new iPhone every year :P

Why would you buy an underpowered console with less games when you can get a powerful console with all the multiplayer plus some exclusives and better online for $200 extra?

because nintendo games have the highest quality and are realy fun?

I agree with you on that one but the average consumer does not know that.

no the average consumer doenst BELIEVE that. Big difference. Nintendo has the highest quality isnt truth its a opinion no amount of posting is going to make it true. The numbers prove that.

rachet is fine, sly is okay too, but both arent masterpieces. sunset overdrive isnt a exclusiv and kingdom hearts just isnt a good series at all( played all because i love disney and FF, but thats all the games have realy to offer).   an im glad u didnt talked about halo. the only big xbox series realy sucks, gunplay is meh, gameplay is okay at max, mapdesign is shit, story is lame, skillcap is way to low, online is okay.

its better than cod, but allmost every fps is.

i dont realy understand how u can love xbox. its nothing special, just a soulless console to play multiplats and halo.

Sunset Overdrive most certainly is exclusive to the Xbox One. Maybe there is something I am unaware of but at this moment, it is only available on Xbox One.

Also, you can have your opinions on those games, that's totally fine but I guess that means I can too. Like I said, I'm a Nintendo fan but by no means are all of their games "masterpieces". Honestly, as much as I enjoy Nintendo's first party, I believe they are extremely overrated by a portion of the gaming community. Zelda is great, 3D Mario is fantastic and Smash/Mario Kart offer a great deal of fun when playing with friends but to say that these games are the be-all end-all is simply absurd.

And where did I state that I "love Xbox"? I assume you saw my avatar and just assumed? Not gonna lie, I'm a fan of the console because I personally do enjoy playing online games like Halo, Call of Duty and the occasional WWE/NHL game with friends. I know to some people that's considered a sin in the gaming universe but I like what I like. But please don't assume things because I do enjoy my Playstation and Nintendo consoles just as much for what they offer me.
