posts like this are a little silly at this point. nintendo has telegraphed what their moves will be in the next 2-3 yrs, which is to support the wii u and 3ds and keep their fanbase happy. wii u will end the cycle in 2017 with gamecube-like sales +/- 1.5m (it will have the reverse sales trajectory, increasing rather than decreasing over time, with 2014 and 2015 being the peak years). 3ds will end with gba-like numbers, +/- 7m depending on how long it's on the market (prob til 2016). they'll keep making great games throughout, just as they did in the doldrums of '13.

Supporting it how? They are not listening to their fans. I for one have message them all last gen and this gen. Also it's not hard to find what people want on the wiiU, they do know it but it seem they think they are above it. Not sure what the deal is.

I think Nintendo can easily adopt ideas the others have done.

For instance, the achievement system. Xbox 360 had it first. Sony realized this was a great idea, Implemented it right away. Nintendo just ignored it, they could easily make a stars and coin achievement system. How hard would it really be? not that hard and this simple adds on, it would even make me play more. My lady even complains about the lack of achievements. So she playing 360/xbox one more often. The games have some replay value but really not that much, so achievement makes you feel you are getting more bang for your buck.

Pretty sure they are losing money still, I could be wrong.

I'd agree with them if that is their reason. Otherwise all you hear is random excuses why they won't buy it. All they'd really have to say is 'I don't want one.' And that would end all debate.

Nintendo has constantly given people reasons to not buy, I own WiiU and the lack of Online, Achievements, 3rd party ETC.. makes me not want to play it. I love Nintendo but they are really not trying.

They can easily look to Sony/Xbox for ideas that work and what have not.

People are not buying because they haven't shown why people should spend their money, personally I can't say i disagree. I bought one at launch, the system has not changed much, that is a issue in this day and age.

of all the things nintendo fans are asking for, i think a global achievements system is pretty far down the list. first, games like smash bros., pikmin 3, 3d world, tropical freeze and wonderful 101 have already implemented their unique achievements system and cannot be patched to comply with a new universal system if one were introduced tomorrow (which it won't be, but whatever). second, it depends on how you think of achievements as interacting with a game. do achievements serve primarily as social function, marking you out as having completed everything in a game, or do they simply extend the time you spend with a game? achievements that add to the experience and substantially increase the value of the game in terms of hours logged trying to unlock everything are great--and nintendo is already doing that. wonderful 101 and pikmin 3 could easily be played for 50+ hours trying to get everything, for example.

my guess is they don't really care for the social function of achievements, but do care, and have demonstrated that, about the value added to a game by achievements sytems. which is why they're already doing it in their own way....

Exactly you said it, NINTENDO FANS, You need to attrack others not just the hardcore nintendo fans. Last gen they got the casual market, all those same people are buying  ps4 and Xbox one, Why do you think that is? because it's all the small things that add up.

sony added trophy's after they launched and where able to implement it globally, so that proves you are wrong they could easily achieve it with some updates.

They dropped the ball hard, I own and support nintendo but they do need to get things together bad.  I'm just being brutally honest.

2) What do you think Nintendo could do to turn this thing around?

nothing, WiiU is pretty much done for. im not saying its dead, but "turning things around" just wont happen, its bound for its crappy sales and that wont change, this is the reality of the situation. mario kart didnt "save it", smash didnt "save it", 3d mario didnt "save it", so it will be foolish to think zelda will. Wiiu is on track to be the worst selling nintendo home console, and honestly, deservedly so.

What do you mean by "save it"?

look at the sales of the WiiU, you should know what i mean then.

What number should Nintendo be aiming for?

Price is not the problem. I remember that at some point of Gamecube's life its price was 99'99... and we all know how much that helped.

The problem (at least where I live, Spain) is that many people who normally buys Nintendo systems (children, families... thats the huge core) still don't know the console actually exists.

Nintendo has done an awful job in everything related to advertising Wii U. And they will feel the consequences until they change that. But fun fact: Iwata wants to spend even less money in advertising. So yeah...

This.

The advertising has been horific. For such a cashed up company Nintendo seem very frugal when it comes to spending money on promotion.

Tons of people have never even heard of the console!
