Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has to do something fast!!!

Selling the Wii U without the Gamepad would be a big middle finger to those who have the Wii U already. It would signify that Nintendo are going to drop support for the Gamepad and no longer use it as a central feature in any of their games. Instead their plan for 2015 is absolutely the correct one - double down on the Gamepad.

I have a Wii U, I don't care if they drop the Game Pad. It doesn't really effect me one way or another. Why is it a middle finger to people who already have a Wii U? The supposed games that they showcased to show off the Wii U tablet were lame as hell at E3 anyway.

I hope Splatoon has an option to use the Wiimote + nunchaku, as that seems to make more sense to me honestly.

so u thing cod would sale as good as it does with far less ads?   an ad bombardment is just like telling stupid people to do something...

like i said 2 or 3 time on the last page,  there is nothing wrong with buying, playing and enjoying a game with realy bad quality.

not every high quality game sales well because of a lot of possible reasons, and a low quality game can sale a lot

and cod mp is fine if u play it with friends, its a fun casual fps, same goes for halo.

Those people that buy COD because of adverts keep buying it the next year as well, and the year after that. So it's obviously not just the ads, they like the game and think it is top quality, otherwise they wouldn't keep coming back for more.

dont underestimate the stupidity of people^^.  why should u upgrade your game every year if its good and not much is changing?

the annual franchises are all selling on ads and hype, not because they are the best games in the genre.

The Call of Duty games are quite different every year. They're not my thing either, but lets not flat out lie here. They're even made by entirely different dev teams. it's not like NSMB - NSMB2 - NSMBU - NSMBWii or even Mario Kart Wii - Mario Kart 7 - Mario Kart 8 are harbringers of massive originality.

Yeah man they better do something fast, otherwise they'll just keep making Wii U games and ultimately turn a small profit this gen and then what do they do? Just keep making video games?

the gunplay is the same for ages, they just change some weapons and maptextures. mapdesign, storytelling, even the bad mp(yes p2p is bad) is still there.

Nsmb wasnt new, but the last SMB was older than the user base^^. the other  games were meeh, more of the same, wasnt all on one plattform, but still not so nice. Nslbu was fun feeled alot more fresh with the different level design

MK is different, they only make one per generation, they add some new features or cut old, but u are right, its basicly the same game.

cod on the other hand has his 3rd game this gen (blackops 2, ghosts and aw). u see the difference?

Because the new games have new stuff, new features, new maps, new most things...

Annual franchises sell because they are good, I often buy them and enjoy them just like many other people and I can assure you most of them aren't stupid.

how often do u take last years annual game and play it again? or the one from 3 years ago?

Wii U is a failure and nothing will change that. Its the truth. There's no point in comparing it's sales to the PS4 or X1 and there is nothing Nintendo can really do at this point to fix it.
And X1 is only doing well cause MS dropped the price and bundled a free game. It would have never done as well if they didn't lower the price. Both X1 and Wii U will be back to their low numbers in January (if the X1 price goes back up to $399).

After the new one releases I don't. I like to trade them in a bit before the new ones release. I don't want to go back and play an inferior game when I have a better newer version.

so newer is allways better? how much of a improve was ghosts? and why u wanna sale a good game? or is it ust a fad that gets u every year because of massive hype/ads?

1) Why are more people buying PS4 and XB1?

because they are vastly better systems with more games, and more games coming in the future.

2) What do you think Nintendo could do to turn this thing around?

nothing, WiiU is pretty much done for. im not saying its dead, but "turning things around" just wont happen, its bound for its crappy sales and that wont change, this is the reality of the situation. mario kart didnt "save it", smash didnt "save it", 3d mario didnt "save it", so it will be foolish to think zelda will. Wiiu is on track to be the worst selling nintendo home console, and honestly, deservedly so.

Well that's debatable. So far I think the Wii U has had better games than both PS4 and X1.

they should drop the gamepad and make the console cheaper without losing any money. The Wii U is not competitive with costing 280 bucks, people wouldnt mind buying WiiUs for 150 to 200 to play exclusive games along their core machines.

seriously, more "drop the gamepad" crap. It isn't going to happen. It's, unlike the kinect, directly implemented into the system and there are some games on the system that would be rendered unplayable without the gamepad. It is what it is.

I'm not the most tech savvy person but exactly why is it not possible? For a moment lets forget arguments like inventory, losses and all that. Why is it impossible? Can't the Wii U just be patched to work without the Gamepad, similar to what they did with the Kinect. Can't they patch those few games that absolutely need it, to make them work without it? I understand it would require some work but why wouldn't that be possible?

It's not gonna happen at this point but I feel like this is something they should have considered before launching the console as well as a year into it, when it was already obvious sales were struggling. At this point, they might as well ride it out for another year or two, attempt to stay profitable and release the WiiU&Me or whatever they have up their sleeve.

It really depends on the game. Smash for example would have its create stage mode completly broken. And having to be reprogramed. Another game is to get the Pikmin 3 Map to work on the TV screen. Where they could of coped out, and had made the map textures at 480 res.
