Whether you believe it or not, there is one unmitigatable truth in all of this. We don't know enough about the planet on which we live and we should know more. My personal view is that if the fear of global warming is the means by which we discover more about the climate and the ecosystem, so be it. It needs to be done. There are people who prefer to live in ignorance, I'm not one of them.
@steven787 did you look at the link that is a petition by 19000 scientist who do not believe that greenhouse emission have an effect on pollution? Check it out, there is no consensus by scientist

They may be wrong, it's happened before, but to say they are just making it up is akin to saying the dinosaurs are just a lie made up by scientist to disprove the bible. |
I can think of several reasons to create fear and exaggerate the risks about global warming:
- There's always people that have a need to control other people, and if Global warming is a tool for it, they'll use it (for example politicians that love regulations and a strong state, "the nanny state" concept etc. In this case you also have hippies, ultra-environmentalists, socialists and whatnot, who want to restrict consumption in the West in general, for ideological reasons)
- weather/environment research, all sorts of self-proclaimed experts on the subject, and all the lawyers and legislators around this, have an opportunity to get funds and money (compare this to the business around illegal narcotics and the military industry - lots of policemen, businessmen, politicians, legislators and lawyers want these institutions to thrive, and will obstruct any attempts to downsize them)
- Leaders in some countries, like Bush recently, see that measures taken to slow down global warming have the side-effect of making the West less dependant on oil. In other words, the Middle east.
- New businesses arise, like farmers making ethanol from crops. There's already a strong corn-lobby in the US
I can't take it!
You know how sometimes when a really annoying person has a certain avatar for a long time, your hate at the person starts to spill over to the avatar itself? Every time I see the Finding Nemo cover these days, I have an irresistible urge to punch that asshole shark in the face. The same mostly applies to everyone from a Final Fantasy game and racing cars.
But not Dedede! He's totally awesome, yet the user with him as an avatar is the worst douche ever. This conflict of emotions is making me feel like a teenage girl all over again!
I applaud the people who actually brought information into this debate. And guess what, they were people who believed that global warming is a scientifically observable phenomenon.
No one cares how much research you have done to show that global warming is a myth when major organizations such as the IPCC, the U.S. government, and the scientific branches of the UN show that global warming is a fact.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

There is much more money to be made for people against global warming. Global warming is about recycling, using less energy, wasting less stuff. Who stands to lose the most if we start driving less or use less electricity. Not the people championing global warming. But then, people love to consume as much as they can and don't want to be told they shouldn't. |
Ah, you'd be surprised how much money can be made in setting up recycling standards and how much "new" money their is in green energy. Unlike Oil, it's an open field, that anyone who has enough money for investment can make a killing with the right lobbying... with government approval anyway. (kickbacks)
Even if we did pass global warming people wouldn't consume less. Instead we'd keep taxing people until they consumed less via a carbon tax. Which maens a lot more money for the government.
Global Warming is big buisness for the government.

Haha I know what you mean. That's why I chose an avatar of a guy who killed half the universe pushing down a kid.
That way people who hate me direct it towards a character worthy of hate.
Though I lke Thanos. Fun character.

I can't see how people can't believe in Global Warming! We spill oil in our sea, we bury our garbage everywhere, the planet is obviously heating up, so why can't you believe.
Oil in water kills countless sea creatures, garbage and toxic waste gives us diseses which shows it is dangerous besides the point. It is impossible to say that Global Warming is a Myth.
