All about this screams amateurs. This can't be real and it's certainly no professional hack.

I also haven't seen any credible news source or Sony itself picking this up. Just random internet ramblings.

Well, its passed the time of the deadline so I imagine that we would have heard something by now.

Still, it doesn't say anything. Getting an image on computer screens in an office is very easy and doesn't have to be a hack. Could be by infecting a website that was frequently visited or a simple little worm contracted by one of the employees for carelessly surfing or some attack from the inside. The stolen data sounds like a scare tactic to make the group look more important.

Either way this whole thing is absolutely exaggerated. Recovering all office PCs is a simple matter of maybe a few hours.

But I guess the media will still have a field day with this even if there wasn't a notable impact on business and no data stolen.

Their ultimatum ran out over 4 1/2 hours ago. From the terrible grammar to the ridiculous 90s-era CG skeleton, I think it's safe to say this is pretty much a big juicy nothingburger. I think if anything was going to come of this it'd happened by now. I have no doubt they did something, but I find it much more likely those "files" contain a ton of malware.

The terrible grammar to the ridiculous 90's era graphics tend to be what shows it is likely real, especially when combined with Sony confirming they are investigating an IT matter but not willing to comment beyond that. They also managed to take over a heap of their twitter accounts according to various sites. Whether they actually got anything worthwhile will be the question, the ultimatum having run out probably suggests they didn't get anything of value but we will likely hear soon enough anyway given the various disclosure laws around the world make it mandatory to disclose a hack if customer data was compromised.

Wat.

And anyway, I didn't say it was fake. I said it's a nothingburger. It's obvious at this point it was either A: a stunt or B: they got nothing.

sigh, not justification, just experience. having dealt with various hacks and defending against them for the last 20 years I would be far more suspicious it was a fake if it was high quality graphics and excellent grammer.

Regardless, I am sure we will know one way or the other soon enough as just about every major news site has now run with the story so it will likely be officially confirmed or denied sooner rather than later.
