100 titles doesn't seem like much, but its better than only 50+ titles that were released in 07' :D

100 titles from just Sony is huge in my book, add new release from studios like Fox, Paramount or Disney and a newcomer like Universal and Blu-Ray will see an enormous amount of releases this year!

what kind of upscaling does the ps3 do for regular dvds?

It is kind of shitty when done through component cables (doesn't work with DVD-ROMS (web-enabled DVD's) and burned DVD's). With HDMI it does everything beautifully, including 1080p upscaling, just fine. They even said they might make upscaling even better in the future.

so it dosent play burned dvd at all? b/c to get a ps3 i will have to swing it as a blu ray player to the wife

It will upscale burned DVD's just fine, but only in 480p if you are using component cables.  If you are using HDMI, it can be any resolution whatsoever from 480i to 1080p.

It can play burned DVD's without a problem if that is what you are asking.  It just won't play them upscaled if you are using component cables (this is true with many DVD upscalers for burned DVD's).

I can't see why all the studios just don't drop DVD all together. Or start releasing Blu-ray films before DVD.

Sure, it's not consumer choice, but who's gonna stop them (excluding the EU, that is)

It's called planned obsolescense.  A new product comes out that everyone, retailers, manufacturers, CE giants, make higher revenue from, i.e. DVD's and Blu-Rays, so they gradually promote it and it gains more and more space in the store.  It takes many years (some people still use VHS's), but the newer format usually stands on its own or supercedes the older one once it has enough manufacturers and retailers behind it.

SACD and DVD-Audio are bad examples because most consumers didn't have the setup to take advantage of these anyways and the industry wouldn't get behind either, so both never got off the ground.

probably because the DVD sales are still around 95% of the market.  somehow i feel the film industry would be a bit disappointed to lose nearly all their sales.

at $400 a majority of the market can't afford to upgrade regardless of how much they may or may not want it...you know cause things like food and shelter need to be budgeted for first.

Who needs actual food and shelter, when that Blu-ray image can provide such a brilliant image.

A blu-ray image of an Apple would be so great, that just looking at it would cure any hunger pains.

The colours so vibrant, that you'll be able to feel the heat coming off of the fire.

I predict they will come out this year.  It is even more likely since HD-DVD bit the dust so quickly.  New Line has already been discussing releasing them.

2 per week isn't bad,

But blu-Rays I want,
LotR blu Ray
Matrix Blu-Ray
Bourne Blu-Ray
Batman Blu-Ray

They mean 100 titles JUST FROM Sony Entertainment...that doesn't include Warner or Fox or Disney or Universal or Paramount, etc....ONLY SONY MOVIES...so 100 titles is a shit load!!! If all the MAJOR studios would release that many this year (Which they won't) we'd be looking at 600+ new blu-rays this year.

For God's sake, just give us LotR and Star Wars on BD then I will be happy (Bourne and Matrix would be a bonus (then I would own the matrix trilogy on DVD, UMD and BD)
