Sure, it's not consumer choice, but who's gonna stop them (excluding the EU, that is)

 probably because the DVD sales are still around 95% of the market.  somehow i feel the film industry would be a bit disappointed to lose nearly all their sales.

at $400 a majority of the market can't afford to upgrade regardless of how much they may or may not want it...you know cause things like food and shelter need to be budgeted for first. 

 Who needs actual food and shelter, when that Blu-ray image can provide such a brilliant image.

 

A blu-ray image of an Apple would be so great, that just looking at it would cure any hunger pains.

The colours so vibrant, that you'll be able to feel the heat coming off of the fire.
