Becausr then they would cost $15 more that they usually would =P

No point adding shit in the box and make buyers pay for it when they may not need it.

This isn't a headset.

Good examination you've made their.

I bought the original 3DS way back in the day so I didn't have this problem but my friend just got the new 3DS XL this weekend and he came back home only to realise there was no adapter either. He had run out of charge while playing his console on the way home. He was livid lol.

It's not so much the cost of the charger that is the issue, rather the inconvenience of having to go out again and buy it when you're excited to be playing on your new console.

I mean seriously, this is 2014. What electrical appliance does not come with a charger in this day and age? What is Nintendo going to do next? Put AAA battery slots in their consoles so that we've to keep buying batteries? This is just beyond dumb.

It's a common thing to do in Japan. Honestly, don't know why though. And other places copy. You have more boxes to deal with. VS one bigger box. The AV Famicom doesn't come with its AC adapter and AV cables. Gotta buy them all separate. Nintendo has done it a lot of times with their systems.

Was your original post sarcasm?

I wouldn't mind that.

Look at gameboy still cna play cause it has AAA batteries.

3DS 20 years from now wont have a suitable battery pack but the god old AAA battery will still be around.

I'm sure they expect the mayority of the N3DS sales come from people upgrading, not new users. Not including something the user probably alrady has lowers the price. And if they don't have it, I'm sure they can buy them cheap either new or used. I think it's a good idea.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

How about all the parents running around on Blaxk Friday or similar picking up X Mass presents for their kids - I m sure there will be many a kid that can t play his new 3DS X mas day due to know way to power it -   Good luck finding one X mas day too- of course the dAy after X mas is as busy as Black FridAy- so it will be a major hassle factor for many

I think the applicable quote is "penny wise and pound foolish"

Nintendo does it because the 3DS is not printing money. Gotta charge extra for standard things when a product is poorly conceived.

Yeah, because they normally give them out for free... /s

Complete misuse of sarcasm.

AC adapters came indeed free with previous Nintendo handhelds that had built-in batteries. An AC adapter is obviously a standard thing for a device that runs on a built-in battery; without one, you can't use the device beyond its initial charge.

If the 3DS didn't use common SD cards, Nintendo would probably sell them separately too.

Those weren't "free" either. The adapter came with the handheld, but I am pretty sure the adapter is included in the price.

Without the adapter the DS would have been cheaper as well.

I doubt it. Making a 3rd party batteries in the future will be common. People make replacement batteries, that are pre-ready for GB/NES/GEN and SNES carts now.

I'm sure the parents of young children would prefer buying a regular 3DS, I suppose Nintendo will lower the price of the original after the N3DS, and if they don't, there's always the 2DS.

Also, if Nintendo discontinues the regular 3DS, they will ad an AC adapter with the new model.

It is not common in The States-  it is def uncommon that is why many people buying would would not think to ask or check -  it would be like buying a car then finding out it did not come w tires-  that may be "common" in so,e part of the world but not in most major markets
