#9
Tomb Raider (PS1, 1996)
guessed by episteme
With a deft combination of combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, and acrobatics, Tomb Raider has a lot of offer fans of action and adventure. The tombs, ruins, and facilities of the game are smartly designed, its puzzles cleverly constructed, and its production values and cut scenes striking. Players can explore dungeons, fight off deadly creatures, and discover hidden treasure, all in a gorgeously detailed 3D environment. Tomb Raider features an intuitive control scheme that allows more complicated manuevers as the game progresses. Of all the great PS1 games, this one, I think, is the very best.

Another hint: This is the only game in the series where the first word of the title isn't the name of the franchise.
My #9 was The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion!
Here's the #8 hint:
What a shame.
What a rotten way to die.
