I'm pretty sure it's Mario. 3D World maybe?

20. Okami
PlayStation 2 (2006)
Clover Studios
Despite the success of the 3D Zelda titles, it's remained an insular sub genre throughout the years. But in 2006, Capcom and Clover Studios created a game that would stand among the much beloved Zelda franchise: Okami. And while it used many ideas and tropes of the genre, Okami wasn't hesitant to stand apart from the pack: It's gorgeous art style and atmosphere brought the ancient land of Nippon to life with stunning beauty, and to this day it remains of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. With such tried and true gameplay elements matched with such a world as Nippon, Okami hooked me right from the get go. It's clever use of the Celestial Brush (made even better through the WiiMote) and engrossing story kept me going for hours upon hours. In the end, Okami was one of the biggest plesant surprises I've ever played in gaming. A game that has truly left it's mark in my heart.
Hint for #19:
Watch your step! Things are a bit more slippery this time. Then again, you're too plodding anyways.

Maybe This iconic character hasn't had his own game recently, though a game from a different company gave him a lot of love. |
Mega Man X?

Pokémon Blue
System: GameBoy
Genre: Role-Playing
Year: 1999
Rank last year: 20 (=)
For it's time, a gigantic game. Especially considering the system it was on. With the dual-game Pokémon Red/Blue this Japanese craze, which is still alive today, for them two decades later, came to the west. Probably bringing with it the single biggest hype any game has ever seen before or since. It was huge. It is still huge, but back then, everybody breathed Pokémon.
I was no different. I got swepped away just like everybody else, how could I not? We weren't talking about school work at school that's for sure. Luckily, it was also one of the few games that lived up to such enormous hype. Everything about it was good, not much else to say. Even though it was one of the biggest addictions I've ever had, personally my interest did fade when the 2nd Generation rolled around. Sad but true, and this game would likely be substituted in this list for a newer version had I ever played one.
There's still a vivid memory attached to this game though. One day, when I didn't yet have this game for very long, my young dog found my GameBoy Color laying around with the Pokémon Blue cartridge inside. As a puppy, he was a rascal to say the least, and the GameBoy found it's way into his mouth. It's screen was destroyed, and another game inside one of those cases obliterated. My Pokémon cartridge, had hole right through the plastic, but still worked fine. Recently that dog passed away at an old age, but I still have my cartridge. Left as one of the many reminders of his existence.
