You're right. DMC4

And DMC2 was trash.  Just look at this for inspired enemy design.  And the combat and environments were far worse than the first game

Since we're on the subject of DMC, I'm planning on playing the first game on my vacation, and if I like it, I'll probably tackle the rest of the series.

But... is DMC2 really THAT bad? Should I just skip it then?

Considering that hack n' slash is a genre I do not like, I liked a lot the first DMC when I played it on the HD collection. When I played (and eventually beated) the second one, I threw the disc away, and promised myself never to play DMC again.

Yep, skip 2. I did and it has kept my love for the series intact.
