Demon's Souls (PS3, 2009)
not guessed
The first of five new games on my list, Demon's Souls is an action role-playing masterpiece. Set in a medieval kingdom ravaged by demons, the game tasks players with exploring several diverse game environments, slaying terrible monsters, and collecting weapons, armor, items, and souls, the currency of Demon's Souls. It all sounds typical of the genre, but the game is anything but typical. Employing a unique permadeath mechanic, whereby demon slayers who fall in battle are reduced to a weakened "soul form," and an asymmetrical online multiplayer mode, whereby other players can leave behind hints or invade others' worlds, Demon's Souls brings extraordinary features to a fairly common genre. Add to those some memorable music, spectacular level and enemy design, and a steep difficulty curve that makes victory all the more rewarding, and what's left is one of the very best games of the seventh generation.
So #37 was Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, as Smeags guessed.
#36 is a different, yet similar game to previous titles in the series. You might be feeling a sense of deja vu even at one point...

Silent Hill 4: The Room?

Nope! Not this time.
#37 - I really like the chaos and mayhem of this game, and the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. Loved part 2, which was way more serious (and is featured higher on my list), loved part 4 as well (but it's about the same as this one, so it's not on the list). Cannot wait for more mayhem in Gat Out of Hell on January 20.

You know your history
No one? I'll give an additional hint.
Game #37
This game tried to be realistic, but with physics like these, it's actually very comedic. Driving up a wall under a certain angle would send you flying through the sky dozens of meters. Not to mention what happens when you reach the end of the map (where you weren't supposed to be in the first place). This game was made by a console manufacturer, before they got into the hardware business.
More or less simultaneously, this manufacturer also had another series of games with a similar name, of this other series a sequel actually made it to their first console. Also, the game had a digital-only reboot fairly recently.
