Forums - Microsoft - Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta is 720p, 60fps

The Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta outputs at 60 frames per second and a 720p resolution, developer 343 has confirmed.

Studio head for Halo 5: Guardians Josh Holmes told Eurogamer the resolution of the Xbox One exclusive first-person shooter is subject to change as development continues over the coming year.

"For the beta, at this point we're totally focused on gameplay," he said.

"We're midway through development. We're balancing and tuning the gameplay systems. All of the polish and optimisation graphically is stuff that typically comes towards the end of the production cycle.

"So, for the beta, we're going to be coming out at 720p and 60fps. That's not the final resolution for the game. You can imagine as we go through the remainder of the project we'll be focused on polishing the visual look of the game. You can expect it will look amazing when it comes out."

The Halo 5: Guardians' beta, accessible from 29th December 2014 to those who buy Halo: The Master Chief Collection, runs on dedicated servers. The beta lasts for three weeks, and includes three game modes and seven maps. 343 plans to let players vote on which maps and modes they will like to see over the beta's duration.

It features an XP progression system that determines your Spartan Rank. This unlocks customisable cosmetic pieces such as armour sets, helmets and visor colours. You can also unlock special armour pieces by watching Halo Nightfall and unlocking achievements in The Master Chief Collection. These transfer over to Halo 5: Guardians when it launches late 2015.

The finished game will include is an overhauled Competitive Skill Rating, or CSR. CSR is a seven tier system that goes up and down depending on how well you do in PVP.

graphics, stability of frame rate and resolution shouldnt be judged at all now. the game is still a full year away, making any judgments about technical stuff right now is stupid. as far as the gameplay, it looks fantastic, which is all that matters now.

720p and 60fps is great and I think this is the best prioritization for this type of game.

Just remember guys... Its a beta

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

So what? The game comes out in a year. Gameplay looks great.

At least it's 60fps!

I suspect they'll wind up boosting to 900p or something.

But honestly, Halo 5 is a game where I'd have no issue with them sticking to 720p, ramping up the effects big time and showing what the X1 can do at 60FPS.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

as long as they keep 60 fps is fine by most of the fans, fps is more important to shooter especially competitive games like Halo and COD.

Well it's not a secret anymore how the Xbox One perform and their technical limitation, i bet it took higher polygon count that sacrifice resolution, and judging from the early footage the graphic is a next gen graphic and look good.

But still 343 is not utilizing coding close to metal, if they able to code close to metal they may achieve better for the engine and the performance, i guess they still have time for one year.

Would love to see this.

This is terrible! A new console cant do 1080/60 in a high profile, exclusive game?
