Forums - Sony - Would piracy be beneficial for Sony?

Piracy is terrible for any company that works to maximize profits.

Nope, nothing good will come from piracy

Nope. As well, a lot of pirates would also end up buying their consoles used thus the respective companies wouldn't be making a cent.

Pirates pirate to save money so why would they go out and buy their consoles new when they'll buy it as cheap as possible.

Believe it or not, a significant number of pirates *buy* video games in addition to pirating them. This is either because they want online multiplayer, collector's editions, or just feel like supporting a developer/publisher for a quality title.

Edit: Edited my post, as I did not want you to believe I was attacking you in any way by asking where you got that impression pirating could be good for the Vita. Your OP explained it very well :)

Oh don't worry about that :)

It's just I have the impression that the Vita would be the only console thin gen able to benefit from piracy, basically because it's in such a state that any help is significant. The WiiU is also selling poorly, but because Nintendo makes the majority of their profits selling their software, piracy would be very poisonous for them. For the XBone, Microsoft wouldn't allow any kind of piracy in ANY of their products. AS for the PS4, it's a monster in sales already. Same for the 3DS.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

No. They would lose so much money from piracy.

Not even piracy can save Vita, because it doesn't have any games worth pirating... Doubt that westerners, and especially Eastern Europeans or South Americans would buy the system for indies and niche Japanese titles...

Yes, but if the software allows homebrew, it can be used as an emulator. How easy creating a PS1, PSP, N64, SNES, Génesis, NES, DS, GBA, GB... emulator can be? The Vita is already capable of using a PS1-PSP emulator, so that would give it a HUGE appeal to retro gaming.

People can use a android phone or tablet for that. Piracy will never be the solution. For this or anything else.

Nothing of what you said makes sense.
If Developers hate piracy so much why would they jump on a platform that only sells because of piracy?

The platforms you mentioned already sold well without the piracy and had enough non-pirates to actually buy software.
