3D World still used forward rendering, while with Mario Kart 8 Nintendo seemed to have upgraded to a deferred rendering model. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter becomes their standard from here on. I'm no expert at spotting it though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do move aheadwith deferred rendering, but this doesn't look to me like the capabilities of MK8/3DWorld's engine(s?), particularly in the lighting as comparing this and Toad are just entirely different. That said, I am actually incredibly impressed with how clean and sharp these images, colors, and lighting are in these images even if they are bullshots or possibly downsampled. I think its reasonable to assume 720p and possibly AA, and I think 60 FPS is a given... especially with the single player seemingly being part precision platformer, part third person shooter.

I have at long last found my avatar.

I find funny how people point out improvements (on any game for that matter) i mean, there's nothing wrong with pointing stuff out but isn't that to be taken for granted? there's a reason is called ''development'' just wanted to get that out - My only complain of the game would be that 4 on 4 seems like too few people, hope they're working or at least considering more players, even 6 on 6 doesn't sound that bad :D

That's definitely a wii u game.

The only thing is, Nintendo isn't known for employing sophisticated AA.

Their Wii U entries have either used simple edge smoothing (3D World) or no AA at all. (Mario Kart 8)

I'm hoping for 60fps though.

Sadly, it usually goes the other way; devs over-promise with doctored screens and target renders, then can't get the actual game looking that good, so it looks worse as time goes on.

60 FPS is seemingly guaranteed for a platformer/shooter like this unless the engine is super taxing... but I doubt that. Most of the liquid physics is creatively used/reused mesh overlays of only a few distinct patterns from the looks of it.

I don't think the 3DWorld engine could run more than simple edge smoothing (especially not in MK8) while also keeping the same general graphical fidelity/quality and the locked framerate. At least not when they made it originally (never in MK8, that's just too much going on there). Does Toad's new game look like it has AA in it? That'd be a good judge to see if they've done more with that engine.

No word on Toad yet, but it seems that NIntendo just isn't that keen on AA (they probably consider it unnecessary at HD resolutions) and would rather devote the same rersources to better lighting, etc.

Just went and checked, the gameplay trailer is 60 FPS.

To be fair, a lot of developers seem to be skirting the AA in games nowadays to try and cram in more IQ. Just look at the two recent driving sims, neither has it and they look super-jaggy when not in motion. Same thing is true for a lot of Nintendo's games at this point outside of 3DWorld (if you don't zoom in or play on some supersized screen).

But, then, I'll take 60FPS over 30FPS and AA any day of the week.

That's odd, the Nintendo UK one isn't...
