I'd understand any average developer...but this is Kojima, I doubt he'd do something like that. Just like you said...compress some stuff. I bet a lot of it is just completely uncompressed.

@LordTheNightKnight
Is it really that hard to believe? If they're developing this thing in 1080p, then it's going to take up a lot of space. Especially if a lot of it is uncompressed. There's also audio...if they're leaving that uncompressed, it's going to take up a helluva lot of space.

Kojima doesn't need it, Sony does...

From Kojima (Accoording to a fan who meet him at Comi-con):

MGS4 will be 1080. I'm assuming 1080p, but he said 1080. He said Sony is "forcing" them to do it in 1080. He hesitated when he said this. Im thinking he could not find the right word, and chose to say "forcing."

No way it will fit on a DVD9. Wouldn't give me a number as how big the game will be. But went on about how Sony is pushing HD content and in no way will it be possible to fit it on a normal DVD, and BD is totally necessary for MGS4.

Edit: Probaly the original site (Where I read it) twisted and add the "fit into a dvd" part, but the issue is there, Kojima was pushed to put a lot of HD content (prerendered cuts) in the game, this way, it cannot fit into a dvd...

PR strategy anyone???

 Strategy or not, Kojima goes for quality...I think he might have pushed for 1080p whether Sony asked or not. And that's not what I was saying Kojima wouldn't do. I was saying I don't think Kojima would be as cheap as doubling up the data on the BD....even if Sony really wanted him too. If I find out MGS4 is doubled over...I will lose all respect for Kojima AND Sony....and I'm a huge Sony fan...I'm serious too, if I find out they did that, I'm putting my PSP down...selling my PS3 and getting a 360. All my friends would gasp at that too, so even though you don't know me, just know that I'm really loyal to and love the PlayStation brand(had a PS1, still have a PS2, a PSP, and a PS3). Seriously...it'd be like giving away my most prized possessions. I have a lot of respect for them which they will lose if they're pulling a cheap trick like this.

1080p is just screen resolution. That doesn't really take up that much disc space unless it's an FMV. Otherwise, the bigger worry for resolution is the fame buffer memory.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

This game better be more than 6 hours long heh

Little off topic, what do you mean by "doubling up the data"? And why is it so bad that you would sell your PS3 over it?

 There is a big difference, between prerendered videos, and ingame videos using the game engine...  prerendered videos at 1080 take a lot of space (Even if the game runs at 720 or 1080), ingame videos using the game engine don't, Kojima probably would use the last, but Sony ask for the first...

I love how people attack him because they are stupid. I'm pretty sure he knows how to make a game, guys. If you've ever played MGS before you'd know there are a ton of awesome cutscenes. You can compress Blu-ray movies down to DVD size but then they don't look the same, which is why seasons of shows take up 6 discs. If 20 hours of shows need 6 discs, then clearly several hours of cutscenes will need a whole disc.

He said that a long ass time ago, but all the wii60 fanboys said bs dvd is enough lol.

 How many of them are made with the game engine running in game, and how many are prerendered cut scenes???

I think Kojima has stressed that it's not pre-rendered an in-game. Of course, I might be trusting too much in what he says.

@LordTheNightKnight

My point on the uncompressed audio still stands. And if it doesn't take up much space at all, why are a lot of 360 and PS3 games 720p?

EDIT:

@Stever

Because it's a cheap trick...if it was because of loading trouble, I guess I could understand...but if it was for PR, I just wouldn't respect them anymore. And doubling up means to repeat the data on the disc.

Power, both of the consoles can't run those games at 1080p... Tomb Raider(I can't remember the name of the dev team) and Epic devs already stated this...
