As unlikeable as Kratos has become, Bayonetta and her extremely cocky, sex-doll, cliche attitude is much more unlikeable to me. I beat the first game and by the end I wanted someone, anyone, to bash her head against a concrete wall so bad.
OT:
Setting: GoW. The art design for the levels in DMC has never caught my eye like GoW and its amazing looking world.
Characters: Neither of them have what I would consider good character development, but at least GoW's characters take themselves seriously, most of them anyway.
First game: Both had really good first games, obviously the first DMC was amazing for its time, but the original GOW just outshines it in pretty much every regard. Specially considering it's the only game from either franchise that I consider has an actually good story.
Evolution: DMC. GoW feels pretty much the same as the first game, but the quality remains constant in every release.
Better games overall: GoW. I just love the fact that it's so focused on the brutality of its combat. I've never really fell in love with the whole "being stylish in combat" thing that DMC focuses on. I prefer the combat to feel visceral and raw, just you and a horde of enemies, surviving any way you can.
