I would want Zelda. A female Link is still Link, with Zelda we would get something new gameplay-wise

I wouldn't mind for the next reincarnation of link to be female, it could be fun and it really wouldn't change anything. Having Zelda as the protagonist would probably be the more interesting of the two, as it would give the devs a little more freedom on character development. It could allow us to see more of what her role and ancestry has to do with the Hyrulian kingdom and the mythos behind it. It could also give us a chance to actually have a more rounded protagonist with personal flaws and shortcomings than the blank-slate of a character the current Link is.

I kinda think a gender swap on the main character is a token nod. I'd rather they come up with a completely new design for a female "version of Link" not named Link and have her be the only playable main character or simply have a whole Legend of Zelda game featuring Zelda.

You could have Link as a support character or have him not be there at all, I don't care. But I think merely giving you a "choose male or female design" option at the beginning of the game for a protagonist as iconic as Link is just... eh.

I've wanted to play as Sheik since his/her introduction, so Zelda. But I'd welcome a game with Zelda and Link as main characters, a game with Zelda as the only playable character and Link an NPC, a gender-swapped Link, or any combo you can think of. There have been at least 11 different Links in the timeline, so I don't see why one can't be female at some point. And if Link is supposed to be little more than an avatar or a vessel for the player, then I see know problem with female fans being better represented.
