Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is sitting on a precious Rare that still hasn't been used.

A seemingly positive MS first party OP? What the...

oh, ok. Only took one reply for the usual crap to come into play.

So their first party sucks and they won't make new IP's, then why do they care about Battletoads? Killer Instinct was essentially a reboot it's been so long since it was relevant, multiply that by 10 and you have Battletoads.

Microsoft took a while to respond to all of the people begging for Killer Instinct to be remade since they bought Rare. A battletoads reboot would sell well and differentiate Microsoft from Sony well enough from Sony on XBLA. If they handed the title to a great up and coming third party dev it would be pretty sick. Battletoads was the better franchise to me compared to Ninja Turtles until Turtles in Time came out in the 90's.

Hey...i'm actually saying something hopeful for MS. They own a very creative company's legacy. If they cannot produce on level with their legacy you might as well have pass out their IP's to great prospective companies. I'm loving Killer Instinct.

What if the meet you half way and just put the toads in KI?

Instead of making new games, I'd like to see all the old games remade and rebalanced to be more enjoyable. If people like that, then consider a new game.

LOL....I'm  not talking about making Rare create games any longer, i'm talking about something of a higher prospect seeing that Killer Instinct turned out so well and a second season is coming out and looks great! I'm done with Rare making new IP's for MS. If they were smart they would just use the boatload of Rare IP's that they have. The reported that KI sold very well.

It won't turn out well since Rare themselves can hardly make good games anymore ...

LOL Then they should do what they did with Killer Instinct. Give the franchise to the most willing third party developer. Lord knows their first party isnt up to the task. They might as well go through the old Rare attic since they are afraid of making new IP's for themselves. Speaking of new IP's made by third party, I cannot wait for Scalebound. Kamiya is such a hypocrite. ;)

so they should ruin the franchise is what you are saying.

Killer Instinct is dead to me. WTF was tat shit they released in many little DLC packs. That is not a game. It's a slap in the face.

Microsoft was publishing a lot of third party games last gen to keep them away from Sony. Same thing with Mass Effect. EA literally had to buy Mass Effect in order to void the contract of keeping Mass Effect away from Sony and as a console exclusive for Microsoft. This is the type of deception MS depends on and its hilarious when it blows up in their face.

http://gamer.blorge.com/2009/03/18/tecmo-circumvents-exclusive-deal-with-microsoft-for-xbox-360/

As you read there they talk about the fact that Sony had a policy for no payment for exclusivity last gen.

"However, it seems that the once thought iron-clad exclusive contract with Microsoft is not so iron-clad. In the gaming industry it is rare to see a game being published by a manufacturer turn up on the competitor’s system. This is like if LittleBigPlanet or Resistanceturned up on the Xbox 360. This is exactly what has happened with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Console manufacturers sign a binding contract to pay for the marketing and manufacturing costs of the studio’s game in exchange for an indefinite exclusive deal with the studio. Microsoft has done this by paying for the big budget marketing push and the manufacturing costs for Ninja Gaiden 2.

As per contract, Tecmo is not allowed to release Ninja Gaiden 2 on the PS3, but can release any other iteration of the series on any platform since Tecmo owns the Ninja Gaiden IP. This is similar to how EPIC Games owns the Gears of War IP, as Mark Rein VP clarified when he stated, “Epic owns Gears of War.”

There is also an article showing that the reason for the loss of exclusivity of the new Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy XIII was because Sony refused to pay for it. They were getting exclusives out of loyalty. MS pulled out the checkbook and thats how they won E3 2008. Sony essentially let it happen.

LOL. What kind of article is that? N4G's? Did you write that article?

I'm sorry but your MS arguments are all tinfoil hat material.

Anyway, look at what Tecmo did with Ninja Gaiden without MS funds. They rode it to the ground.

And as for FF XIII, Sony couldn't hold SE hostage anymore with it's meagle share it had in the company. 2K and SE knew their IPs had more potential to blow up financially if they had gone multi-plat.

No. I am saying give a lower budget reboot a shot on XBLA.

The top Street FIghter players migrating to Killer Instinct and EVO seem to disagree with that logic. The barrier for entry is higher than most games as well Can't wait for Season 2. Very solid fighter and a great dojo to boot. If you don't like it, I cannot help you there.

.....Just stick to what you believe. Articles cannot help you. Its a well known fact that MS funded Ninja Gaiden 2  to keep the exclusivity of the game and that Tecmo circumvented the contract to make NInja Gaiden 2 for Sony.  You cannot be helped. That is clear at this point.

P.S.

I remember who you are now. You're the same guy who asks people for proof and don't show any of your own for what you say. I'm cutting this convo off before it goes any further.

You can get both S1+S2 for $40, I fail to see the issue.

I don't think you're the first guy that suggested MS should take advantage of their treasure trove of Rare IPs.

MS's only concern right now should be putting Vita Pinata on mobile platforms.

Everyone has their opinions on what MS should do with the Rare IP's and imho Viva Pinata might have been good but not really worthy of conversation with Rares ips in their glory days. I mean I hope it happens though.

It doesn't matter if I ever show you proof or not. You always sing the same song.
