Xbox Honcho Phil Spencer Wants to Rethink the Parity Clause; Acknowledges Gamers’ High Expectations

by Giuseppe Nelva (17 minutes ago) 0

A few days ago Microsoft’s Xbox Division Head Honcho Phil Spencer mentioned in an interview on The Inner Circle Podcast that the parity clause, which asks indie developers to publish their games at the same time on Xbox One as on other platforms or not at all, exists because he wants Xbox owners to feel like they’re first class.

That sparked a lot of discussion, especially on NeoGaf, and apparently Spencer is taking the feedback to heart as he mentioned on Twitter:

I see the feedback on my stance on the clause, I want to rethink how we approach this, responses are heard.

Spencer also responded to a fan who alleged that PC gamers are impossible to please, mentioning that according to him all gamers have high expectations, and that’s perfectly fine.

I find, in general, all gamers have a pretty high bar for what they expect, I think that’s fine as long as people play.

Finally, he also gave his opinion on the many leaks of sensitive information, which have spoiled a few surprises in the past months.

Gamers are passionate and they want to know as much as they can about the consoles the invest their time/money in, no issues.

One thing is for sure: it’s good to see discussion on a sensitive topic possibly sparking change. Hopefully it’ll bear fruit sooner rather than later.

You're making indies hate the X1.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

Why wasn't he put in charge of Xbox division years ago. He actually knows what the fuck he is saying most of the time.

Keep the parity clause, 97% of indies are garbage anyway and MSFT makes sure the better can pass through the process. There hasn't been one great indie game that has came for ps4 and skipped XB1 and Spencer has already confirmed his interest in popular games like No Man's Sky, unless sony ends u buying exclusivity. Also I wouldn't want to keep waiting for devs to develop XB1 version after the ps4 version.

Not to mention people focus on the games coming out at the same time, but people never mention the free devkits and other benefits of the id@xbox program,

I'm not saying he's wrong on the things he says, but having very high expectations for games is a good thing?

Another article about this topic with with loads of info. Gone from "we hear ya" to "We hear ya and maybe".

Fuck, this man should talk for Ubisoft. At least you wouldn't get people screaming bloody murder over 30fps 900p.

This just goes to show why Phil Spencer should have been put in charge of Xbox from the start. He knows when to listen, and what to say.
Don Mattrick would have told them to stick to Xbox 360.

Guilty Gear is not Indie. And Japan doesn't count.

They skip Xbox platform no matter what.
