Is your friend that Nintendo 64 kid from youtube? I always wondered what ever became of him.

This kid?

Those of us lucky to have N64s as kids all basically were this kid lol

I understand! Hopefully you will get one next year!

I just looked up the prices...

I have to pay like ~80€ for N64 with the original packaging!

And the games are also like 40€+ with the original packaging. :S

I wouldn't want to buy just the console tbh.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

If the Wii U is unable to compete with the legacy of the N64 of all things, it truly is a screwed up console.

It's the public perception that's screwed up.

I think though we look at Nintendo through too much nostalgia and rose colored glasses.  Because many figure Nintendo never did any wrong way back in the day, everything else today is horrible in comparison. And it was a great era.

Someday, Mario 64 won't be the greatest 3D mario, and we'll need to recognize that.

Someday, OoT won't be the greatest Zelda, and we'll need to recognize that.

Someday Nintendo will publish a FPS better than Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.

It never was, LTTP still holds that title. :P

But that aside, if we're talking about score, then I don't see how a 100 average is possible.

Fun Fact: In the U.S. the N64 actually sold as much as or more than the SNES, and was actually beating the PS1 in monthly sales until Final Fantasy VII was released. It just didn't fare nearly as well in Japan or Europe.

According to NPD N64 have sold like one monster in USA...

N64 have sold 11 million first 30 month in USA, versus the 8.5 million of PS1!

N64... good time. :)

In a way, Nintendo must compete with itself and it's legacy. Every single possible new thing they do is so heavily scrutinized in comparison to Nintendo's past and legacy that if falls short in any way, customers would rather comb through pawn shops and ebay for what's considered the best of the Nintendo offering rather than take a chance on anything new, perhaps even with solid or exemplary newer games.

And this is why Nintendo rarely cuts the price of their software, and it's why Virtual Console games don't cost 99¢. People will pay $40 for an almost-20-year-old game.

But what if only 1,000 people are willing to pay $40 = $40,000 but 100,000 people would be willing to pay $4 = $400,000?

What if 50,000 people are willing to pay $10 = $500,000?

so the wii u is selling bad because some people collect old consoles??
makes no sense
