like they need to. facebook isnt a tech company, they will fail hard with oculus.
its just usefull for gaming and facebook isnt into gaming, and they dont have the money to make it work in the long run.

But Sony have said that it isnt and wont be just for gaming.  So are they wrong too?

Facebook isnt a tech company is one of the weirdest things I have ever heard.

sony has the content to make it a bit more than just gaming, but its mostly for gaming. our do u think everybody will use it for work or social connecting? gaming, movies and porn in the future(movies maybe, porn for sure).

and facebook isnt a real tech company, they dont have any outstanding tech, facebook as product isnt realy impressiv or won the race because its the best. they just dont have the knowhow. facebook is a one trick pony, not more.

Right.  Thats sure is some trick they have there....

Sony's content? you mean a movie back catalogue? what does that have to do with VR?

The biggest use of VR will be in education and science imo with a potential reach into things like documentaries and travel.

To use VR headsets and Social in the same breath is an oxymoron imo.

u can allready buy good VR equipment, its just costly(we have 1 in the lab for what ever reasons, i think someone tryed to use it for proteinmodelling or something like that.) for a college or industrie lab a 3k$ VR helmet isnt a big deal, and occulus cant compete with those helmets. and its just not usable for education for the next x years, the content isnt there, and u cant justify 25 VR gears for mediocre education material.

Oculus is aimed for the consumer, and the consumer just cant do a lot with VR

Only thing Sony can take down is themselves.

First Facebook and Oculus Rift... then the world!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Absolutely no chance whatsoever. Facebook can use guess what facebook as the marketing tool. Billions use facebook. On top of that Sony have no money, if this fails it could be Sonya end.

I think both will fail. VR just doesn't appeal to the masses.

Just because Home is shut down doesn't mean Sony can't bring it back. It's not like they are just throwing away all that code.

So far this tread has been derailed due to the usual
Sony is too poor
VR is gonna fail
and other nonsense not related to the topic. Where are the freaking mods?!?!?

Most of the masses havent tried out vr god why are people so ignorant here.

I want to curse most of u guys out but don't wanna risk ban. And you guys are the same ones praising kinect which has almost ZERO proper gaming applications for what the tech is meant for.

OR and morpheus has gotten mostly positive outlook from the gaming media so y'all need to keep ur ignorant comments in your pockets.

kinect is so impotant that they droped it.

VR is nice for some games and could bring more people to experience games. but other than gaming, there is just no use for a cheap VR atm. and to make it clear for everyone, education doesnt work. u need a lot of high end pcs to let a class work with VR.  and if u just wanna let some work with it, u can buy a good one(and no, these to arnt good ones, they  are fine for gaming, but its a difference to the expensiv stuff, and thats good for the market its aimed at, because gamers ont realy buy a VR ger for 3000$(or alot more)

thats why it will be a flop for Facebook, but works for sony(as long as the xbone doesnt work with oculus).

No I think oculus is gonna shine on pc due to the sheer amount of mods available for it like playing smash bros in vr via dolphin emulator :D

Both pm and or are aiming for $300 pricetags for the complete experience. Remember these devices are using small mobile displays which cost $30-50 in mass amounts and sony has joled for displays and or has samsung so both will get them for relatively cheap.

But for the masses and casuals Playstation is where it's at right now, and I also believe (like kinect was hacked for the pc b4 the pc version came out) that project morpheus will be hacked in order to work with pc's.
