Assassins Creed 4 Wii U Review
Originality: I am stunned by this game. I’m still “eating my foot” about it. This is the biggest “upset win” a game has ever had over me. While the formula is the same, this game introduces something to the series that, while it isn’t “new” it certainly has been perfected; pirating. I have not, in many years, felt the addiction of doing the same thing in a multitude of ways while getting more enjoyable as the game progress. The whole concept of building your ship up, the HUGE step up in overall story quality compared to 3 or 1, and the introduction of things that DEEPLY moved me, as a Christian who felt great empathy towards the real life people of this time period based on this game, make this an experience I’ve never quite had before in a game. A stunningly unique experience that’s most amazing part is the fact that it’s associated with such poor quality predecessors.
20/20
Graphics: The glitches are down, compared to 3 on Wii U, and the weird coloring issues are less as well. I don’t see the weird lines appear on the faces much in this game except for during the load screen. Overall, a much more consistently “pretty” game than 3. Still, nothing stunning here.
8/10
Art Style: Pretty much the same comments here as I had for 3. A rather normal looking art style that doesn’t innovate or excite. I will give it some additional credit, though, the hard work put into a multitude of different settings.

Story: I felt emotions, deeply, throughout this game. Kenway’s obsession with his wife and reuniting with her, the joy and sadness of all these legendary pirates (especially Blackbeard who almost made me cry because he was so lost), the emotional ups and downs of all the betrayals and backstabbing’s. The ONLY thing I hated about the story were the stupid interruptions to the “real life.” And I actually somewhat enjoyed the real life story (I’m really curious what that one crazy ancient lady is going to do in the future, for instance) but I wish they would have had it as either entirely optional from the get go or that you could have unlocked it after beating the main campaign. I hated the breaking away from very intense pirate moments to go to that. Otherwise, stunning story!
28/30
Game Interface: Annoying or not? Slight improvement over 3, but nothing revolutionary here. I’m still annoyed about having to pause the game when I want to set up a marker.
3/5
Controls easy and fluid or difficult and rigid? MUCH better than 3. My ONLY issue was how difficult it was to switch to different weapons while you’re fighting/running from an enemy.
4/5
Is it fun? I can’t express to you how much I enjoyed this game. It reminded me of my youth so much.
