Evolution Studios has said it was unable to foresee DriveClub's current server issues which have crippled the racer's online features since its launch last week.

DriveClub's servers currently cannot cope with the number of users attempting to connect their copy online. The problem started before the game even launched on disc in Europe, and has caused the free DriveClub: PlayStation Plus edition to be delayed until further notice.

Evolution has been forced to implement a one in one out policy - so you won't be able to log in unless another player disconnects.

Director Paul "Rushy" Rustchynsky has now defended DriveClub's troubled launch and said that pre-release tests had not shown up any issues.

"We ran a beta test and none of these issues occurred," Rustchynsky wrote on Twitter. "We had confidence everything was ready. These issues were unexpected.

"We did run large scale synthetic load tests with tens of thousands of concurrent users and the tests were successful."

Some DriveClub owners have questioned why the game was released at all - especially after its previous year delay - if its servers weren't ready.

Others have asked for compensation - something Evolution has said it is not against as a possibility.

"We're considering all of our options right now," Rustchynsky wrote in response to one fan who had been unable to connect.

The last server update, pushed live on Friday evening, increased the total number of players able to connect. But Evolution explained that further tests over the coming days would impact server availability for all.

Even if you can connect to the game's servers, various features remain offline. Challenges and social updates are unavailable, although clubs, leaderboards and online racing are enabled.

"We're still working flat-out to fix the online problems," Rustchynsky concluded last night. "Sorry for the wait."

In 2014, this is ridiculous.

Unfortunate events can happen all the time, as the developer did some beta tests and synthetic benchmarks before launch with confidence. Even some of the players were playing the game online before launch so this is unlucky for them.

Other developers just do a way better job at this, simply. Yes, these things can happen, of course. I work in IT since several years and know this but the time to resolve these issues is unusually long and shows there seem to be way more things broken than one would think.

I think it's also ok to defend the devs but it just doesn't put a good light on the devs and while I feel for them they also have to be criticized for the disaster.

Some good news for Driveclub owners
Driveclub servers are "building a steady increase in performance", according to its developer. The performance increases follow a string of connection problems that affected players after the game shipped last week.

Evolution Studios, the developer responsible for Driveclub's buggy netcode, has been persistently communicative during its disastrous week of connection problems and server timeouts. But late on Monday, the studio appeared to have turned a corner, claiming that an increasing number of players are now able to access the title.

"Continual upgrades to the Driveclub servers are building a steady increase in performance, meaning that we're getting more and more players connected," the studio wrote.

As an immediate response to the online problems last week, Evolution closed some of Driveclub's online features and postponed the free PS Plus edition.

While there is still no new release date announced for the PS Plus version, the developer said another server update would arrive by Wednesday that would begin the process of switching on more online features.

"We are sorry that we don't have more concrete news to share right now, but please be patient. We will have more information for you tomorrow," the studio added.

Throughout the past seven days, Driveclub director Paul Rustchynsky has been actively addressing fans on Twitter, explaining that it was the game's buggy netcode that resulted in the server woes.

Do apologize for lack of response on this thread. Being to engrossed with the alien isolation game. loving the game to bits. Glad to see, those who have been playing the game , have been enjoying it. I hope the final fix, is not to far away.

So what now? Is the free ps+ edition finally available?

In all seriousness this is a terrible launch. One of the worst launches I've ever seen. What is wrong with pan?

Definitely should've tested it way more before it was released. I'd rather have a game work properly and take longer to be released, than what people are going through now.

They should have put a free open beta to stress out the system and verify, you can't skip activities on developing a heavy online game.
but please understand.

Nope, still delayed. Pretty dumb on the developer's part. They had 11 extra months to get this down and they couldn't run a simple beta?

Well, actually, they are running a beta right now. Sure, it's a paid beta, but the feedback will certainly help when they get around to releasing the complete game sometime in 2015.

nope.   i have been checking every 3 day lol. It won't be available until this issue is resolved.  The weather patch won't come after the free version of the game comes out.  They are also looking at compensation for those who bought teh full game digitally and at retial.
