I'm not going to write a review on it but this game is a 9/10 for me. Absolutely addicted to it. 5&6/10 from reviewers you're having a laugh!

Same here. I've been racing all day. How far in are you?
I'm lvl 29, finished the semi pro tournament, and keep getting distracted by setting better lap times. I won't move on from an event until I have all the stars and solid first place, then I'll play it again anyway with the HUD disabled cause it's just so good. DC has the best night racing I've seen yet. I love picking a circuit, start at 17:00, 30x time compression and race through the night into the morning setting the best lap time. Last night in Norway, the aurora borealis lighting up the mountains, flood lights, reflectors, headlights, simply spectacular.

I joined a club today when the server connection was working for a bit. That was about the extent of it working. Still no multiplayer events or challenges loading. Then it signed me out again and started downloading an update file. After the update it wouldn't connect anymore ofcourse.

Anyway still a long way to go to clear the single player portion. I tried out a hyper car already a few times. No handholding there. I guess reviewers complaining about too much grip didn't play it very far. It's been a long time since nailing a set of corners felt this satisfying.

i'm on level 15 so not as far as you. but you are right it'sclear reviewers only play the first few events with the worts cars. it's so obvious and pathetic that they didn't bother playing through it properly. Or maybe they did but it suited them better to write a bsd review. Whatever doesn't bother me as the games a blast.

As for multi I'm not going to even try get it going for at least a week when I'm done wit the single player. Hopefully it will work by then.

A racer that isn't open world/real racing simulator. Something very rare these days. I can't name anything like DC that has been released on the current gen.

Grid Autosport is in that vein and released in 2014. It just wasn't on 8th gen consoles.

Either way, it sounds like you're grasping at straws. People who want a game in this vein are probably better off with 7th gen consoles.

What does he/she mean?

Not open world and real racing sim or not open world and not real racing sim?

Other arcade racers have been in open world (NFS, The Crew).
Sim racers (like Forza, Project Cars) are on tracks.
But only DC is arcade racing on tracks!

Like I said, grasping at straws.

No. Driveclub is severely lacking in many many departments. Racing games of last generation(GT5 etc) offered much more in terms of substance, progression and enjoyment. FH2 did little to diminish Driveclub's response. Sony should have instead used up Driveclub's manpower to speed up GT7's development instead as it was always apparent that Driveclub was not going to be the pinnacle racer that the PS4 needs.

it doesn't have to be a pinnacle racer. It's probably cross between a sim and an arcade racer. I haven't had this much fun with a track racer since PGR on the 360 and that includes Forza and Gran Turismo. GT5 had way more of everything and Forza had way more tuning cars etc but it means fuck all if I don't get the same level of enjoyment racing around the track. The only thing I'd prefer about Gran Turismo 6 is the fact it has Go Kart racing and that super fast car that doesn't exist in real life.

It has attributes from both genres.

Yes I know that but what attributes specifically?

quote from neogaf and i echo it completely.

"Anyone else feel this game has some of the best tracks ever put in a racing game? Just did one of the Canada tracks, I think a reverse one, which was downhill the majority of the track and quite long to boot. Suffice to say, just sublime. The back drops, awe inspiring scope, visuals, details, foliage, choice of corners, elevation changes, extreme speeds etc. Magnificent stuff."

The tracks help make this the excellent game it is. I think that's why I prefer it to gran turismo. A typical track in that game is a little spin around a famous city. Some of the tracks in drvieclub remind me of the nuremburg track in Gran Turismo. Geat stuff.
