By request of a moderator I'm gonna say stuff in the OP.

Driveclub is getting some low review scores. Low 70s at the moment. SUP WITH THAT?!?!

Could it be Driveclub is mediocre... or did the awesomeness of FH2 make it seem mediocre in comparison to critics?!?!

Would Driveclub score better it released prior to FH2? Vote now!!!

One thing I learned from all this is that the difference between medicore and awseomeness is only 14/100.

Anything that scores between 1 - 50 kinda doesn't matter. That's just a score for games that are varying levels of bad. There are few games that scored in the low 50s or below I can genuinely say I enjoyed. Its scores in the higher 50s to 100 that give an indication of a game being worth playing or not.

So yeah, 14 points is pretty significant when you consider scores 1 - 50 are just varying levels of bad and doesn't matter. 14 additional points could have boosted Destiny to critical acclaim.

A very fair statement, and it came across in some of the reviews I read.

I've had doubts about the structure of driveclub for a while, mainly from what's been said by Game director Rustchnsky.

Graphics are amazing and I had little doubt they would be, but they still aren't perfect. Their 5 different types of AA hasn't got rid of every last jaggie, and there is the occasional low quality trackside detail.

It seems like development didn't go well at all.

I think the crew will score even lower now as it's more similar to fh2 in that it's open world. Played the beta for 10 mins and that was enough.

Maybe reviewers are readjusting their scales for the new gen :)

I really, really hope this is true. I am so fed up of every game getting 90%+ when they are the same and the public rate the at ~40%.

Well first of all, I don't see many games getting meta scores in the 90s.

It doesn't matter what the public thinks. Reviews are generally done by critics interested in that game or its genre.

Sometimes the public has opinions on something they don't care about or didn't even try. User reviews that we often see on metacritic are basically useless especially if its a game people want to hate.

A professional reviewer will review the design of the game and production quality, and rate it against what it is trying to achieve. This is how small simple indies can get 10s.

Sadly, there aren't too many of these in the industry. Just plenty of people with degrees in journalism which is enough to get in.

It's possible, judging by some of the complaints it seems some reviewers forgot to cleanse their palette before trying the next glass of wine.

It wouldn't have mattered much I think. DC is not as mainstream as FH2. It's catered more to fans of track racing and improving lap times. Games with a narrower focus nowadays usually get a higher spread in review scores. It happens to hit the spot for me. 30+ laps around a Canadian lake into the night, racing against my ghost, no hud, pure bliss. The lighting engine kept distracting me during the sunset though, sun shafts occasionally peeking through the clouds, lighting up the landscape in patches, oh crap I missed the corner :)

DC would have reviewed better if they designed it with the average idiot in mind like H2 was. They forgot to pander to the lowest common denominator, releasing a game that demands skill and a learning curve into today's market should come with some lube and a few tylenol.

At the end of the day every racing game is second rate filler till GT shows up, this gen is proving that more so then the previous ones.

Well said, not subjective at all.

Look at every multiplat AAA game from last gen. They all receievwed absurdly high scores yet many people disliked them eg. CoD franchise.

Don't look at the scores. Look at what they say.

Kevin VanOrd from GameSpot gave Driveclub 5 out of 10 and that's understandable since his favourite game is Burnout 3 which isn't anything like Driveclub.
