Forums - Sony - It Seems Many New PS4 Owners Are Taking The Camera Plunge

Sony gave people a reason to buy the camera other than lame arsed motion controlled games. And in the age of game streaming, and showing your face on the internets a camera for the watchers allows them to more connected to the streamer than merely a disembodied voice.

Two major takeaways from this:

1.) Sony gave consumers the option to buy or not buy a camera peripheral.
2.) The PS4 Eye offers some functions that are actually somewhat useful rather than gimmicky (e.g. streaming videos on Twitch).

Yea i didnt care about getting one until recently because of Live With Playstation. I might end up getting one soon but i need a white one though

I guess people are mad at Playstation fans because other companies had their cameras mandatory in their system bundle so PS fans are now not allowed to buy the Playstation camera

I don't get the hypcrite comments, either.  The main complaints against Kinect is MS seemingly making it the main focus (along with TV functions) of the XBO, as well as giving consumers no choice on whether to get it or not.  And going by sales and MS's 180 on Kinect, the majority of gamers agreed.

lol hypocrites

First thing I thought.

Why? The people who complained about a camera are obviously not the ones buying the PSEye. And the ones complaining about a mandatory camera are satisfied because they're given the opportunity to exercise their options of buying a camera or not rather than being forced to use one. There is no hypocricy within the observation posted by the OP.

That's pretty surprising. I've debated picking one up when I get my PS4. I'll see if I can find it on sale at some point or something. Though I have to be honest I'm not 100% sure of what all of it's features are...just the usual voice comands and game streaming bits right?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

But aren't ps4 owners scared of the NSA? I am, i tape this picture infront of my kinect so that they think im happy with obamacare.

Heh. they'll never know.

Systems Owned: PS1, PS2, PS3,PS4, Wii, WiiU, xbox, xbox 360, xbox one

I was considering picking it up with my launch PS4 but never got around to doing it. Still haven't found a reason to yet but I'm glad it is selling well. Maybe developers will put it to use more if there's a larger audience. Some of the things that are available seem pretty cool but I think I'll hold off just a bit longer.

Expected "hypocrites" comments, and was not disappointed.

It gets me every time.

Of course the people who bought the PSEye are the ones who complained about the forced Kinect that was SO important in the console's ecosystem.
Also, the PSE is cheap and not forced onto us. So yeah, so much for hypocrisy.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I have one. c:

Optional and compelling.

Exactly what does the PS4 Eye does besides streaming on Twitch.  People really are not using playroom as a reason since that demo becomes a throw away after 5 minutes.  Both Kinect and Eye stream on twitch.  I will give the edge still to Kinect since you can video skype which has become very usefull for my family.  Video skype with my mom, bother and overseas with my wife family is a great feature.

There is nothing hypocritical about PS owners buying the camera but I do wonder when its play like some great advantage over Kinect, thats when I have to question.
