I'm resurrecting this to point out the reasons Samus can't be in a Mario Kart game:

Diddy Kong is related to the Mario franchise through Donkey Kong. Since Donkey Kong and Mario actually interacted on a consistent level, and not just a cameo, it implies that their universe does interconnect, and Diddy Kong should be able to follow donkey Kong.
While indeed, both Samus and Link showed up in Mario RPG, they were both asleep at the time, hence, no interaction.

R.O.B.'s interaction with Mario is actually on an entirely different level, as when it comes right down to it, they were partners in launching the Famicom and NES consoles.

If we actually were to introduce Samus to Mario Kart, you would also have to include the Star Fox, Zelda, and Kirby universe as well.

But, really, all that is beside the point, the REAL issue is this:

She's got a bigass gun on her right hand, she can't throw a banana peel and steer at the same time with only her left hand.
