home console gaming is so dead in japan
im not even expect decent numbers for the ps4 in 2015 anymore

neither wii u or ps4 will cross 5m lifetime units

xb1 wont cross 1m

You say 'anymore' as if you thought it WOULD do decent numbers in Japan in 2015. What changed your mind: the lack of games this year or the huge list of Japanese centric games next year?

That Ps4 drop though....

Pocky Lover Boy!

Bayonetta bombed hard. XBox one in triple digits next week?

they lack of japan games on wiiu manage to sell hardware or even do decent software units.

while mobile games are still big.

if japan dont care about 1080p and real life grafic fidelity, i donst see why ps4 hardware or ps4 japan games should do way better than the wii u and its games

is bloodborn bigger than pimkin?

is final fantasy bigger than mario kart?

is sony bigger than nintendo?

i like how people are reveling in the fact that it flopped wishful that nintendo can port the game to other systems. LOL

Well I'm just reveling in it because some fans were quite smug about it. I don't want to see it doing bad. But obviously Platinum decided that it didn't matter to them that the game sells copies.

So if they don't want it to be successful, we should be supportive of their wishes.

I'm going to be smug when I get to play this sexy beast next month

@bold: well, i don't think thats true. Remember Nintendo financed this, they are responsible for the marketing and essentially will take the financial hit, shielding platinum from damage. Platinum Games got paid to make the game and judging from impressions/reviews, Platinum did make an awesome game and nintendo did pour alot of resources for the studio to use to make the game. An effort was made here.

It's just that only 39k gamers wanted to buy the game, and that's how the cookie crumbles

I'm going to be smug right back at you when I'm playing it :P

Yes, Nintendo financed it. And it may be true that they approached Sony and Microsoft for funding as well. But in the end they chose Nintendo and Wii U exclusivity, which means they will at least be expecting that it won't sell well.

They had the choice between releasing on a platform where there aren't as many potential buyers and not releasing at all. So financial success was never an option. But they won't go hungry since for them the game already paid off and moneywise the game doesn't need to sell a lot. At least not for Platinum.

Nah it'll make it to 200k in Japan -- likely due to strong word of mouth and strong legs of the high review scores along with Ninty's promotion and marketing of the game.

You're joking right?

Not improbable. Bayo 2 had a similiar opening to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, which has sold 110k copies in about 7-10 months in Japan. Over the next couple years, lifetime sales for that title will probably get to 200k. Why not Bayonetta 2?

The first DKCR was on the Wii (Nintendo system) and actually sold 1 million units in Japan.

The first Bayonetta was on the PS3/360 (non Nintendo systems) and sold about 300k units in Japan.

Also DKCR was already a pretty leggy game in Japan it only sold about 15% of its lifetime units in its first week and about 65% after 4 weeks, the 3DS remake was also decently leggy, Bayonetta on the other hand sold over 65% of its japanese lifetime numbers in its first week (90% after 4 weeks) and the first Bayonetta reviewed just as well in Japan as the second did.

It's extremely improbable.

I still don't understand how you can draw that conclusion after we saw a pretty good TGS with lots of Japanese centric games announced for the PS4. Before the show I was totally unsure about how well the PS4 was going to do in Japan next year, but after the show I feel a little more confident it will do much better than this year. That to me is the logical progression of thinking, not the reverse ...

This was pretty much as expected. The game will be great but it's not going to be a sales success. People should just realize that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
