Forums - Nintendo - The fire emblem series, your opinions

Fire Emblem Wii is my first one, in the last chapter now and loving it. It's very hard but you can battle save every turn so you don't necessarily lose that much, puts a lot of emphasis on difficult strategy without being overly punishing about it.

Game reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics though obviously there are a lot of differences.

cheers for the comments everyone, i'm loving the fact theres a difficulty setting aswell, i loves me a game thats rich and satisfying that i can come back to and play again on a harder more rewarding setting.

nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.

note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)

I loved Path of Radience, beat without too much trouble(I consider myself a very good SRPG gamer) very nice story, deep custization and gameplay options, best SRPG series imo.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Fire Emblem is definitely NOT a kiddie game. Its a strategy game that requires you to use the right units in the right situations and at the right time. The enemy AI is really good at exploiting ANY weakness you have. You need to pay attention to how many sections both your units and your enemy units can move and whether they have ranged attacks or not.

You also have to choose which units to use/train and how to equip them. How to spread experience around, and how to spend gold on weapons/spells.

There are really so many different aspects to this game, its really hard to summarize. Just know that winning battles and completing the game is very satisfying. Then you get to do it again on "hard" mode.

and if you do it 20 times you get a boss character in the "special modes!"

I always wondered who actually was beating FE 20-40 times to get those guys.

I've beaten the 2 US released gba games and played most of the GC one. The thing you need to know before entering into the series is there will be battles, especially later where one poor move will result in an important character dieing (characters that die can never be used again) and you'll need to restart the battle. Sometimes you'll need to restart a battle multiple times, now if this doesn't bother you then Fire Emblem is one of the best strategy RPGs on the market.

It's a very challenging game with a lot of depth. The inability to revive characters is a great and unique addition, because that way the characters grow on you and you actually care much more for them as in most other SRPGs in which you just let units randomly die in order to block for a strong unit you need in the next turn.

The games are usually pretty long, so you get a lot of content for your money. And then there's always hard mode on which mistakes are punished even harder.

Hard mode in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is actually challenging (compared to the others) because you cannot battle save on every turn to see if something bad happens after you move your characters and then reload to stop it.

And the music isn't that bad.

Oh yeah, the comparison with FFT reminded me of one of my favourite things about Fire Emblem: No grinding!

You can't grind. It's not an option, and therefore not a requirement. You fight every battle once and no more, so they all stay important and you can't just fight the same battle forever to level up weaklings. They either earn their XP in the deep end or get leveled with bonus XP later.

The tedium of grinding was a major problem for me in Disgaea.

I believe the DS is supposed to get one later this year.....most likely only in Japan though.

It's a great series, but be prepared for a challenge; they are hard as hell, especially the one on the Wii. Though I liked the GBA game better (the first one released in America), this is still a fine addition to your game library.
