Forums - Gaming - Destiny and Diablo 3: UUE Reviews

I see an interesting paradim here.

Right now Destiny is around 75 on meta which generally means a "good" game.

D3: UUE is like 91 or so which means and "amazing" game.

I played D3 UUE from its release until Destiny came out and I think its very interesting that reviewers game that game passes on things they are using to justify giving Destiny a score like a 6 (Gamespot). Both games ask you to slay hordes or enemies with the carrot stick of loot dangled in from of you. One is hack and slash the other is FPS being the primary difference (both Nail the gameplay mechanics of their genre, and no reviewers are dispute that).

Both use the "story" as a vehicle to more you from one enemy killing experiance to the next and nothing more. Yet Diablo (yes Diablo 3 has a story) gets a pass and Destiny is getting crushed for this.

Some complain about the Crucible not being what they like, D3 has no PvP so I guess it gets a pass for that.

Both as you do kill stuff over and over. DIablo gives you two modes to do it (Story and Adventure). Destiny Destiny gives you 5 (Patrol, Story, Strike, PvP, Raid), but Destiny gets marked down for being "repitive" while D3 is almost praised in reviews for being repetive.

Again I just got done playing D3 for a long stretch and I love it, but the fact it is scoring higher is kinda a joke. I would give D3 UUE maybe a 8.7 and Destiny is a 9.2-9.5 no doupt.

I feel reviewers are punishing it for the hype. They wanted the game to be the end all for all genres rolled into one and it did not achieve that unachievable task so they are "crushing" it. Maybe some still think it is an MMO so they are reviewing it like that, maybe some are thinking its a MP only game like CoD or TF so they are only looking at that. Who knows but I just cant get over this comparision I just discussed.

People have merit. Don't hype it like that. When it's what people seen before. And you won't get a lot of sad/annoyed people. You'll get a better score.

I have both game and love them.

What Destiny needs to be a great game is more loot drops and chest along with more worlds and unique single player content.

This is the Game of Thrones

I agree, they have a great foundation that will only get better as the "fill" out the world. Honestly the Social events have all been fun, but they are too rare, they would definitly help the Patrol Mode if you expect to get 2-3 at a min if you spend an hour on Patrol. As the darkness is beaten back seeing some settlements arise would make the maps feel more alive as there would be people to visit besides the enemies you are killing.

Bottom line, if the story mode in Destiny wasn't so fucking boring it could have been an 80+ on metacritic.

I'm grinding in Patrol missions because its more tolerable than playing story missions.

honestly, once you beat the story line you will only be doing one story mission a day tops. The "Story" mode in the game is mearly a means to slowly open up the solar system to you.

Which brings me to a though, would they have been better off just opening up the whole game from the start? Lets you pick missions that feed into a bigger story, but not having a traditional linear story? Oh well, the foundation has been set, I am curious to see where they go with it from here. But again, the story is just a small part of the game (Like Diablo in that sense) my point was it should not be weighted so heavily into the score.

In a reverse situation it would have been like reviewers torching Tomb Raider (2013) for it shitty multiplayer. Reviewers factored that in, but it was very minor. That was a great game even though it had mediocre at best multiplayer, Destiny is a great game even though the story is weak.

Games become a masterpiece when they get it all right (like The Last of Us which has an amazing solo adventure and addicting multiplayer, oh but that has not stopped me from enjoying Destiny more than TLOU:R even though TLOU:R is a better game)

Yeah, the story missions are just a means of opening up the solar system. God forbid they made something actually enjoyable.

The story wasn't a small part of Diablo III. It gives a task and motivated me to reach the end.  In Destiny... I'm just running around killing things to level up. There is nothing really motivating me to reach the end Destiny's story, its boring.

Here's the thing about Tomb Raider. It had an amazing campaign and the multiplayer was just there. In Destiny, the campaign sucks, the gameplay is tedious, and PvP is just okay. As a whole, Destiny is a lackluster product.

Oh to clarify the story if only boring if you solo it. It is pretty fun co-op. The Strikes are alot of fun and offer something no other FPS does. PvP is very fun, once you learn how to play you class the depth in PvP really shows.

Destiny's main problem is people dont know how to account for the total package. Reviewer 1 Crucible is alot of fun,  but CoD offer more depth there. Rewiever 2 The story is weak, Mass Effect beats it there. Reviwer 3 Explore more needs more to do Fallout has more to do. Get my point.

Reviewer 1- Fails to mention CoD lacks only co-op (well besides Nazi Zombies) and too had a poor story mode.

Reviewer 2- Fails to mention the gunplay in Mass Effect is terrible and there is no multi, but yes the "world" is more defined.

Reviewer 3- Same as 2.

They seem to be reviewing each aspect of the game against games that only do one thing but are great at it.  They are not consider that Destiny is the best total package for a FPS to date. If I just want RPG story I play ME, if I just want PvP I do CoD or Halo, but what if I want both. The fact Destiny seemlessly weaves this together is a big plus.
