Forums - Gaming - What have we done to the Wii U eShop? RCMADIAX dev defends "SPIKEY WALLS"

Here's the article for you people, including reactions from multiple people! http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/09/from_the_forum_to_buy_or_not_to_buy_spikey_walls_fires_debate_as_developer_defends_project

Here's the actual quote (in italics, because why not?):

"Wasn't going to respond to this thread, but... why not!

I just want to address a few things being said in a non-offensive way. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I value that. I think it is important to hear the thought behind putting this game into production in the first place.

If you would have ask me 6 weeks ago if I would have ever made this type of game then I would have said "HELL NO!". This title was made after seeing titles such as "The Letter" and "IQ Test" climbing the charts despite getting really low review scores. My latest title, SHUT THE BOX, received a 7/10 from Nintendo Life and is my highest rated title developed so far, yet it was outsold 100:1 by these games people were calling crappy. If they were so crappy, then why did you buy them? You made TreeFallStudios and NinjaPig very wealthy by joking around and purchasing those titles. As customers you have so much power over companies because you can vote with your wallets. If you don't like a game...THEN DON'T BUY IT. It's very simple folks. No one at RCMADIAX is trying to trick you into buying anything. I didn't take your children and hold them hostage until you buy my games. Its so very simple to just don't buy the game if you don't like it.

As far as sending the message that you don't want low-priced games? If too late for that. You have already proved that there is a market for $1-3 titles and guess what, there are a ton more coming from "thousands" of registered indie devs.

Nintendo does not rate our games on content. They have a set list of guidelines that we must adhere to and that's what they test for. You wanted the eShop more open and this is what you get. It's up to you to make an informed decision on if a title is right for you.

With all this being said, I will continue to develop these small games in my spare time because I enjoy it. My dev kit is already paid for multiple times over and I enjoy trying to create games that are not already on the system to give it some variety. Lots of people enjoy my games and there are plenty looking forward to SPIKEY WALLS.

Thanks for your attention folks and please be respectful of one another and if you want to take a crack at Wii U development, then please sign up and create your own games. Have a good night!

I'm kinda saddened by this now.

You all are God Damn Welcome!
Makes the system fun and exciting! Right now it is dull and lame.

But it is people like me who are to blame in general. I cannot take full credit.

Lol, I do really hate Flappy birds though. Hate it soooo much.
The Letter has given me and many other people alone, hours and hours of entertainment.
If I can have fun like PewdiePew does with his crappy games, but on my Wii U, then win! I spent 300 dollars on this machine with like 2 Nintendo games that I enjoyed. Not buying these games will teach nintendo a lesson, yes. But I am out 300 dollars and a whole generation! While I wait for them to get their shit together next gen? No.

Well, to be honest, considering how restricted miiverse is, it's drama like this that keeps it entertaining!

Did he basically just say his game is shit?

Well, this is amusing! Very, very amusing indeed.

I don't understand people that buy games because they're bad. It will only lead to more bad games. I woudn't even buy them for 1 Cent because it sends the wrong message.

It wasn't a good decision to have no quality control at all (the ability to finish the game seems to be the only requirement). And it's weird that buggy messes pass the lot check, but the patches often fail it...

Because then we have nothing. At least it is the eshop and only a dollar or so, unlike the wii where we were getting full shovelware titles for 50 bucks and it was a sea of them. Now, no harm done. But the Wii really pissed people off, especially casuals who did nothave a lot of money, but they went and tried these shovelware games out and got burned badly. Then tried to trade in the games only to find out they were worthless really fast.

although I bet the Wii library of games will be really collectible really fast! Expensive to.

No, shovelware titles with several hundred thousand units sold (or more) will never be collectibles... Red Steel was the only bad game I bought on the Wii.

I haven't finished half of my Wii U games and don't want to waste time with bad games.

Nintendo needs to tighten up the rules for eshop releases. They do a good job advertising the good titles (Fall, Teslagrad, Last Stand, Neo Nano, etc...) but they also let too much of this garbage through and people give it undue attention for stupid reasons like "Buy it to see just how bad it is!".

This Flappy Birds clone deserves to be removed along with all the other garbage slowly seeping its way onto the eShop, which, fortunately, is still low in count.
