I've never played a Fire Emblem game and honestly was never interested in it until a saw lucina and robin in smash bros and now I want to play Awakening really bad. If I jump into the series at awakening will I be okay storywise or will I be lost and would have to start the series on a different game?

It's probably the best one for newcomers, honestly

Yeah it's the best one to start with, also Fire Emblem games are almost like Final Fantasy in terms of different stories. The ones that are connected are Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, and Buring Blade and Blazing Sword.

New Mystery of the Emblem and Burning Blade are only available in Japan however. I really wanted a NMotE release here in the US for the DS...

Around the Network

This was my first Fire Emblem and I thought it was great but far from perfect.

Played on Hard/Classic by the way.

Thank you guys, I'll definitely play awakening then and probably the others in the series as well if I enjoy FE:A

Played through Hard/Classic without much trouble because I grinded as much as I could, akin to my playthrough of The Sacred Stones. Then, Lunatic/Classic happened...

I stand by my belief that this game was based on (the far easier) FE8 more than the other handheld FEs.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It's never gonna happen.

But just play the fan English translation, it's a great game and definitely worth it.
